The one thing I'll always remember was the Man City towel on the balcony, signifying that Alan was back in town. It was famous. Alan brought a smile to your face just seeing him coming down the street or spotting him sitting at the bar. That is a rare quality indeed.

Lol : the towel !   the first time we met Alan (or didn't meet him as was the case), was several years ago.  We were bringing him a box of goodies (Bisto and casserole mixes if I remember !) and we asked how we would find him.  'look for the towel over the balcony' he said, elaborating no more.  So we cruised Calis for hours, looking for this damn towel.  In the end we had to give upand stopped at Scunner's office, only to be told...oh, Alan's in the uk (ie: no towel hanging on the balcony).   Had us laughing for ages !
