duty free at dalaman airport
« on: June 28, 2019, 10:42:40 AM »
A bottle of 1 LTR of J D at Gatwick I purchased on our recent departure  offer price £20.50 p at dalaman airport it was at .    converted price £ 25.45.
2 x  LTRS bicardi £11 each offer at 2 bottles  for this price ...dalaman airport converted price was £ 13 each.

so its cheaper in Gatwick than dalaman duty free.

at duty free in dalaman you get plastic  carrier bags free on arrival, BUT on departure no plastic carrier bags you have to BUY a woven bag  yet another charge in this expensive airport.

What really annoys me is that they price in Euros (albeit with a GBP equivalent) and then collect in Turkish Lira.  Its only when you get home and check the card statement that you really know how much it cost.
Add that to having to pay for the e-Visa in US$ and the new law that states that house sales and rentals can only be advertised in Turkish Lira and its all a bit of a dog's breakfast.

Are they still telling travellers that they can take 1000 duty free cigarettes back to the UK ?

Judging by the pleas of innocence from several people at the customs desk as I arrived at Birmingham airport a few weeks back I would say "yes".

We usually pay by credit card in euros and let our bank determine the rate. We think (!!) that works out best.  : :)
Having said that we don't buy much there, too expensive!

If you use a UK credit card you will also normally incur a handling fee as well not sure about others but I know Halifax clarity does not charge for using abroad...

Don't think we've ever paid handling charge when making purchases karennina. If we use cc to make purchases abroad we always pay in local currency. Thats with Nationwide or Tesco cards.
