The main thing to remember about driving in Turkey is 'Always expect the unexpected', even moreso than when driving in the UK. Oh, and keep pressing that horn !

It's a well known fact that the only reason to scrap a car in Turkey is if the horn doesn't work.  ;)

I want to give another great big shout out to Pegasus rent a car...
So this time as transfers are not plentiful at this time of year we decided to drive ourselves from Dalaman and pick up the car there...
Absolutely fantastic service and a much cheaper way of getting from airport we had a day time flight so the drive to Calis was lovely, same going back, tho we did have a bit of a “ worrying 5 or so minutes as the petrol light came on and whilst we were seeing lots of garages on the opposite side of the road there appeared to be none on ours, when I finally spotted one in the distance never have I been so glad to see a garage...
We love the novelty of petrol stations in Turkey where they fill up for you and maybe give your windscreen a clean at the same time and don’t bat an eyelid if you just ask for 20tl worth of fuel.
Incidentally if anyone is thinking of hiring a car for the first time this year,  car hire in Turkey appears to work on an empty to empty basis re the fuel...

Pegasus are an excellent company for car hire and I've used them several times in the past and never had any problems.

However, I'd always recommend, whichever car hire company you use, to take photos of every body panel, all glass, including front and rear lights, tyre tread and the interior including the spare tyre and tools in the boot, when taking the car on. This could save you getting an unexpected claim later for damage that was already on the vehicle.
