Title: Random Questions..
Post by: BernieTeyze on September 29, 2013, 20:12:31 PM
Hi Everyone,
I have some random questions if anyone knows the answers please.

Do the clocks go back and forward in Turkey.
If you take a British tv with freeview built in, does it still get freeview..Turkish or English?
How much extra luggage can you take with you, do you need to book it or is it classed as been over weight and you pay per kilo when you get there.
Do you need a special dvd player or will the british one play turkish dvds?
What are those double teapot/kettle things for?
If you have a balcony barbecue is it easy to have a wood burner on the wall behind.

Thanks in advance, strange what goes through your head isnt it.
Bernie

Yes the clocks change
British TV won't work I don't think
How much luggage you take depends on the airline you fly with and which class
British dvd player works fine
You make real strong tea in one pot and hot water in the other

Sorry. Had to use the quote so I could see your questions as I reply.

Clocks - Yes, same as UK
No, Freeview won't work here
Luggage - you can take what is allowed when you book your ticket, any overweight is charged per kilo at your departure point
Any DVD should be fine, in any event, a brand new one here is about 60tl
Teapots things are surprisingly.......for making tea, preferably Turkish tea
Finally, probably No. You need a proper flue but you need to get a recommended expert in to advise. Don't take any chances with this one.

Freeview would work if you could get an aerial 375 miles long

;DThanks for the replies. Definately will get professional advise on wood burner thanks.

I wondered if it picked up a Turkish version of freeview..I know scarey aint I Scunner..lol

Looks like it might be cheaper to get a last min cheap return with a luggage allowance for a friend.

All cleared up, except the tukish tea things, why do you have 2 pots, how do you make it.

 ;D :-\

Tea leaves and hot water in the top pot pretty much the same way as you'd make it at home. The bottom pot just has hot water in it. As the top pot stews, the tea gets stronger so you pour less of it into the cup or glass and dilute it with the hot water from the bottom pot.

A good way to get extra weight here is too book www.jet2.com you pay £22.50 for 22kg of luggage and each passenger is allowed 3 cases ie. 66kg plus your 10 kilo hand luggage.
I f you are booking a return flight book each leg separately as you can not just book the cases for one leg of a return journey.

That's an excellent tip, Mark, And I'm pretty sure Bernie will talk someone else into coming out with them just to make sure that they have 9 suitcases between them!

We moved over with 8 suitcases and 4 hand luggages. One thing I would say is be absolutely sure you can move them. Our friends followed us to Stansted to help get them from car park to check in - but from arrival carousel at Dalaman to minibus transfer it was a nightmare. Mrs Scunner had two three year olds, leaving me with 8 suitcases - logic suggested 2 trolleys with 4 on each and that's what I did. Did you know, two trolleys head off in opposite directions if you try to push them both yourself?!!

Excess baggage charge? £0.00. But that's another story  :)

Jet2 is the best  airline for luggage, 3 hold bags x 22 kgs each for £23 each

I am moving to Uzumlu this weekend and looked at all the options to get as much over with me as I could.

I am flying from Leeds on Saturday with my daughter and a friend, that's 3 adults, 7 hold bags(all for me!) and  3 flight bags.

It's took weeks of planning, I am renting out my house, I have been packing and storing, selling on eBay, giving things to my family, and the final result is me and 7 cases.

I hope to meet up with others who have taken the plunge and done the same!
Good luck Bernie

Oh wow, Susie!

Before you know it, you'll be de-stressing in Uzumlu and be so glad you made the move! Can't think of a better place to feel properly chilled than Uzumlu.

Good luck with the last minute stuff and have a wonderful time.

Susiepink, I wish you the best of luck for the move, and Bernie - you will be there before you know it and all the stress will be worthwhile.

We found out today that our other overseas possibility (Tanzania) is a no-go - or rather they are *still* procrastinating over whether to offer us the job or not - so we've taken matters into our own hands.

We've said "We're out" (Deborah Meaden voice) which means full steam ahead for Turkey.....we're planning to move in June/July. Whoop whoop!
