Title: My Tv delivery (not)
Post by: gleggy on January 20, 2009, 22:20:36 PM
We recently purchased an apartment at the back of the hospital and, over the Christmas period, furnished it completely with locally bought goods. In my infinite wisdom,I had a tv sent from GB via Parcel Force, and, guess what...it never arrived. I have tracked it through a number given to me in GB to the airport in Istanbul. I phoned the airport using a number given by Parcel force to be given a dodgy email address that keeps bouncing back.Has any one had a similar experience that could give me any advice,or am I the only clown in Calis? Following is the email address to see if anyone has used it or recognises if a digit is missing.ydie@ppp.gov.tr

Thanks
Gleggy.

You did WHAT??? [:o]

Besides that outburst, why are you tracking it, can't you get Parcelforce to?

I assume it was insured..?

ppp.gov.tr doesn't appear to be a real domain that I can see.

CoCo, sorry Gleggy,

It should be @ptt.gov.tr That's the Turkish postal service.

Parcel force only track to the point of handing over to the other country's postal service. I had the same problem sending some stuff to my son in Thailand. It turned out that the postman could not find where they lived so it was sat in the local depot. I suggested he got his girlfriend to ring up as she obviously speaks the lingo. Sorted in no time once she contacted them.

Use UPS or similar in the future as these can be tracked door to door.

You might find that Turkish Customs now have it.

very likely, imported electrical goods usually end up in an istanbul customs warehouse awaiting tax to be paid on them...

Alan,

UPS can be tracked all the way though - unlike RM who only track to the country. It still might not reach the destination but you should be able to find out where it was last tracked to.

I was thinking of bringing a new tv through as hand luggage on the plane next month.  Has anyone done this and if so was there any problems or costs involved?

Snowtop, a neighbour of mine brought a 14in flatscreen as handluggage. He had it confiscated and had to return from Calis to Dalaman the following day to retrieve it on payment of £78 duty :(. As Tinks said they do sell perfectly good tellies in Fethiye.
