Title: Opening of new Istanbul Airport hit by further delays.

Istanbul’s giant new airport, a flagship project of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), is in serious trouble. The unfinished airport’s soft opening was held in October, but in December the government announced delays pushing the transfer of operations to the new airport to March 3, 2019.

That date has been pushed back once again, due to fears that an early move could lead to a catastrophe at the airport before March 31 local elections. Meanwhile, the contractors who had signed on to lucrative contracts to build and operate the airport are now deserting the sinking ship one by one.

Meanwhile the ‘old’ Ataturk Airport is degenerating day by day and the staff have lost their customer service skills. The place is dirty and the toilets are a disgrace.

Operations from Atatürk Airport to the newly built Istanbul Airport will start being transferred on April 5.

It was previously announced that the new airport would become fully operational on Dec. 31, 2018. The date to move the operations, however, was further delayed to March 3.

We fly on the 30th March from Heathrow to Istanbul then on to Dalaman, So when we fly back the 26th April we will go to Istanbul new airport, is that right ? unless they have more delays.

Thanks for this post Alan, needless to say this has effected our Easter flights, we were due to fly to Dalman via Istanbul. However Turkish airline moved flight from Heathrow back by three days, with a take it or leave it deal, we took it even though we would lose hotel our prepaid cash. and then having changed car hire in Turkey and car parking dates to accommodate T.A, This morning we find that they didn't change the onward flight to Dalaman  so they had us on a flight three days before we would arrive (both flights on T.A) after phoning them this morning the next flight to Dalaman was to be 2 days later, without any form of compensation or hotel offer, therefore we cancelled whole trip and have rebooked at this late stage with another carrier for more money, and lost another hotel charge. what a shower!!! to be polite..
