Title: Walking group in the Fethiye area.
Post by: padraig on November 17, 2017, 19:07:48 PM
We are looking for a walking group in the Fethiye area over the winter. Does anyone on the forum know of one, whether it is Turkish or a foreign
organised group it is not important. When we are not in the Fethiye area we live in the Silifke area near Mersin and are part of a Turkish walking group that goes out every Sunday between October and the end of June. it is a great way to see the local area and as we spend a lot of the winter in Fethiye we thought we would look for something similar there. if anyone has any knowledge of one please let me know.

Many thanks

Peter

Hi
There are a few options. What sort of distances do you want to do and are you serious ramblers or just want an easier stroll?

Fethiye ramblers meet Wednesdays at 10am, we do 12km upwards, and not scared of hills.
Wacky walkers also meet Wednesdays, at 11 and do similar distances but slower paced and not quite so hilly.

On Sundays there is the choice of 3 different groups.
The Fethiye hash house harriers group describe themselves as drinking group with a walking problem.
The olu deniz hash house harriers group is an offshoot ( but now larger) and not so much into drinking games and penalties.
Alternate weeks theres the Calis walking group.
All 3 meet around 11am and cover about 5 or 6km and go out for lunch afterwards if you wish..

All groups have facebook pages, all cover Fethiye surrounds, are dog friendly and weekly messages tell you the start points.
(The facebook group for wacky walkers is kismet bar official group)

Hi,

Thanks for the reply and is encouraging that there are a few options. Although i would think that the Fethiye ramblers sound the best option
for us. in our group which is called ' Poyraz' in Silifke we can walk anywhere from 10km upwards. Last week we did 22km and the terrain we
cover can be anything from hills, goat tracks,  and open countryside to canyons of which there are many in this region. i will look on Facbook
to make contact with the Fethiye ramblers as they sound ideal. Thanks very much for the information it has been a great help.

Fethiye Ramblers will be right up your street then.
I was a wacky but recently progressed and loving (well sometimes loving!) the extra challenge.
Look forward to meeting you.
This is us up above Uzumlu last Wednesday  :)
Next week we will be in stunning Kabak.
Only a 45 minute initial climb.
Bit nervous about this one !

Trekking Lykia Elite are a Turkish walking group and cover tough terrain
 Canyons and gorges.
Hills. Off the beaten tracks.. Winter months and do walks about 20 Kms.. They have a Facebook page.. Their walks are not got the faint hearted..

Thanks for the reply's guys. I have been in touch with Fethiye ramblers and am quite looking forward to hooking up with them when we
come over to Fethiye. Another couple of options sound interesting especially the Turkish group as we do a lot of canyons ourselves. Once
again thanks for the guidance and advice.
