Stuff that  ;)

Cooked chickens in Asda & Tesco don't cost that much do they?

I can't see Brits or Turks paying 9 YTL, there are plenty of other places other than Migros...

The problem with £1.94 chickens is that they taste like they cost that much - or rather they don't taste of anything very much. Also, even a dedicated carnivore like myself has to have some concerns about the factory production systems that mass produce such watery fowls. Unfortunately, if you want to switch to organic free-range birds that actually taste of chicken then for the same size you are shelling out £12+. (Sorry about the pun).

There are other options though Colwyn.
Tesco have the cheap the mid price and the Organic or Best Range.

In Tesco I would expect to pay between four and six pound for a decent chicken.
Unfortunately Gus doesn't like chicken so I have to buy chicken breasts for me.  Not the same taste as whole cooked chicken.  Even if they are healthier.

Colwyn - the spit roasted cooked ones all taste the same to me - it's the skin that's the best bit and gives the most flavour.

As for the uncooked ones - I agree the cheap ones are pumped full of water but you get what you pay for I suppose - we normally go for the 2 for a fiver and they are edible.

GOD WHY AM I DISCUSSING COOKED CHICKENS!!!

Cos you are a sad retired man like me Stoop, I don't like the breast i'm a leg man myself, opposite way round with women, but that's another story, a chicken is a chicken as far as i'm concerned. Alan

Stoop, it is fine if you want to discuss cooked chicken - former financial advisers need to have an interest in life. I, of course, was raising weighty issues in relation to the methodology of international economic comparisons and the ethics of food production. Chicken was merely an example of this.

I was shown a piece in a Turkish newspaper which said that chicken prices had trippled
in the last month. There's a bit of a shortage (maybe due to the cullings last year?)
and the demand is high at the moment.
