Title: Removing ball point ink mark from leather
Post by: Highlander on July 29, 2017, 14:14:04 PM
I have succeeded on marking our leather suite with a black ball point pen.

Any ideas on how to remove it before the divorce papers arrive. :( :( :(

Alcohol !  Put some alcohol on a cloth and dab the stain. Don't rub it. That'll spread it the stain.

It was probably alcohol that caused it

A google search suggested that - but is that pure alcohol or just something that contains alcohol ?

Yep, hairspray.  Works a treat on "dinner badges" on clothes before washing too.

Just be very cautious of using cif. I have cream leather sofas! Blue denim is the enemy! Mine are very well worn and awaiting replacement, so ........I took cif to them and scrubbed. It was wonderful how much grot I took off until I realised that the parts I had cleaned felt slightly rough and the parts I hadn't yet scrubbed felt smooth. I had taken off the protective layer. They looked beautifully clean but I now have to wash every week as anything I.e. Newspaper print etc dirties the leather, although it does clean off easily enough! Time for new sofas I think.  :o ???  :)

Have a sneaky look through Brenda's warpaint stash and see of she's got any nail polish remover. It'll either be alcohol or acetone based. Both will work.

Failing that, try petrol. But then you'll have to deal with the smoke damage and flooding.  ;)

If it were me, I would use a tiny amount of gentle soap, I.e. Dreft, or fairy hand wash etc on a sponge and just give that a go. My sofas have been through the mill, believe me, and are now about 12 years old, and it was only me going at them with huge amounts of energy( not a common thing) which ruined them! I have removed numerous marks from them. They really are quite resilient.   ;)

Did you get a leather cleaning kit with your sofa? That moves lots of stains. Also you can buy leather wipes which are very good at cleaning. It will also eventually wear off. Just chill, if all else fails sit on it or put a cushion on it, it's amazing how forgiving leather is. Just don't sit on it in new jeans!   ;)

Own up mate. The offer of an all expenses paid holiday to Turkey will probably calm her down.

Well, look on the bright side. You're going to have deaf 'n dumb breakfast for a few days. Make the most of the peace and quiet. It'll be like a solo holiday.  ;)

And the winner is...................

Hairspray on a cotton bud. Worked a treat.

Many thanks to Bernie and bluwise and all who took the time to reply.

I had read about the hairspray fix on the internet but it was really good to hear from people suggesting it.  :)

The former Mrs KKOB seemed to think that deaf 'n dumb breakfast was a punishment when in fact, for me, it was a relief.   ;)
