Another £85,000 and six more months for the Police to investigate Madeleine McCann who has now been missing for 10 years.
The McCann's have raised fourteen million pounds in the search for their daughter and I wonder why the police are using our money for the search. I know the McCann's spend a lot of money on lawyers to stop anyone writing anything they do not approve and I wonder what this extra time and money the Police are putting in will help after 10 long years.

I tend to agree - not sure why they are still spending public money on this as the parents seem quite adept at raising funds themselves.
Obviously I feel for them - even after ten years - but I'm not sure this is the best use of public money.
Like Ben, Claudia and many others though - there will only ever be closure if she is found.
-
Give me the £85,000 and I reckon I've got a better than good chance of working out the "who" and the "where" - unfortunately, its the "why" that seems to create more speculation than the first two "W's".
For anyone who wishes to see it from the Portuguese Police perspective:

Outrageous decision !!!!

Disgusting waste of tax payers money sounds harsh but true...what have they had spent so far £13 million? Im sure Ben Needham never had that amount spent on the search for him...in the beginning 10 years ago when Maddie first went missing i felt sorry for the family until more of the story came out and heard the parents had left all the childer alone at night so they could go out for dinner..this 85K won't find Maddie, too many things about this case sound very wrong to me and sadly it will be 85000 down the drain...
-
I would like to know if the McCann's have spent any of their own money on the searches, and if so, how much. ??
They've pleaded with everyone else for money. Ben Needham's mum sold everything searching for her son. The McCann's
are still in their own house and carried on with their Medical Practices eventually.
-
An awful thought that I may regret posting.......as a keen cryptic crossword puzzler I can only see "Maddie" as an anagram of "I'm dead".
I can't help but feel that's the case.
-
I agree Stuart. I suspect she has been dead for 10 years now.
-
Do a google search on Maddie Fund, and matters relating to Maddie. It's interesting. !! The McCann's mortgage payments
of £ 2,000 per month paid from the Maddie Fund. The private jet trips to Madrid, Amsterdam,Berlin, Washington DC,
North Africa, Rome, ect ect, paid from the Maddie Fund. It just goes on and on. Reports of them being investigated for fraud.
-
All quiet on this front but Operation Grange is due to close at the end of this month.
Let's hope so.
-
It's quarter to one here and right now I can count about a dozen kids running about the cafe and three in push chairs. Portugal is no different in folks views towards kids - bring them with you, it's simply the way it's done.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, if the McCanns had been unemployed and from an inner city urban area they'd have got the jail. Disgusting couple.

Couldn't agree more with your last line

The granting of yet another £ 154,000 to extend the investigation until March 2018 is a total and utter disgrace..
Makes my blood boil. >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Can't agree more!

Why throw more good money after bad....total waste of time, manpower and resources. The money could be better used in fighting crime on our streets, getting more coppers on our streets, tackling prostitution and other important issues such as paedophilia.
I suggest that the McCanns look at how they are behaving, and how they are living off the 'Maddie fund'. Despicable isn't the word for these two , I am tempted to call them social pariahs. I am so bl**dy angry now.
Rant Over.

The only reason I can see for this is that they must have something substantial or provable. This does not seem to be crossing T s and dotting I s in my experience.

I hope you are correct and this comes to a conclusion.

In March this year the Met said they were pursuing one suspect and were granted more time AND money.
If they have not tracked that individual down in the intervening 7 months what the sam hill makes them think they will in another 6 months.
Mind you travelling around Europe and having the odd stay in Portugal is an attractive gig for the detectives.
-
Here we go again.!!
This morning the Home Office announced that the Metropolitan Police are to receive MORE funding to
continue the search for Maddie. This whole story stinks and needs investigating. >:( >:(

This whole story stinks and needs investigating.
Aye, and its about time that the McCanns were properly investigated. Unfortunately they seem to be untouchable and, as many online commentators have suggested, crucial forensic evidence was either destroyed or disregarded in the immediate aftermath of this crime.
It'd be a tragedy for any parents to lose a three year old child under the circumstances portrayed by the McCanns, but I find it difficult to have any sympathy for this odious couple.

-
If I'd lost one of mine at three years old I'd still be there.

It makes me think they must be close to something if they want to keep it open. I think the days of police jollies are well and truly over so I don’t think they are doing this for the fun aspect.

A total and utter disgrace - if they have a new credible lead they let them publish it.

Yes me too Scunner, but how many of us would have £11 million of public money to fund it! >:(

First time I’ve seen this. No idea how much of it is rubbish but if the photo fits are real then I’m wondering why these two haven’t been arrested and questioned:

Pretty much all of it.

My violin is on the small side when it comes to these two. Whilst I cannot imagine the pain of losing a child I think there has been enough money from the public purse spent on this. Money that should be better spent elsewhere

Even snopes don’t discount it all.

Anyone wanting some light Reading?
These are the events as they happened.

One interesting section is the sniffer dog reports. We read snippets in the press but the detail is much more of an indication of why they thought the parents were guilty.

-
I watched the video, The truth of the lie a while ago, it was the first time I had heard anything about the use of dogs and certainly made me think. I have to admit that I am more inclined to trust their reactions than give credence to any other explanations as to what happened.
On the other hand though I find it incredible to think that someone could carry on with their lives actively promoting an idea of what happened knowing the truth all along.
Whatever occurred that evening was a tragic event that you wouldn’t want to happen to anyone, least of all a child of your own.
-
Presumably it was the same Home Office who decided that the search for airman Corrie Mckeague should be handed over to the Cold Case Team.
Where is the logic in that. >:( >:( >:(
-
...and another £150,000 or so allocated to this investigation. It is being suggested that the Home Office did not want this figure to be made public - says it all really.

If the McCann's sold their house that would raise another £ 500,000 for the search fund. But don't hold your breath.

A total and utter disgrace. Makes my blood boil.

Is this not the money previously allocated up till the end of March.

No.

Many thanks.
-
I understood that this money was to fund 6 months more investigation time.
It seems to me that the police and Home Office have been economical with the truth when saying that they had new significant lines of enquiry with a high possibility of an arrest.
Nothing has happened so the next thing that has to happen is that the Investigation is Closed.
-
I agree that this is a disgraceful waste of public money.I used to think they were close to a breakthrough but all of this time and money has not yielded anything. It has deflected things away from the disgraceful parents.
-
You will know better than I Steve A but it seems to me that the trail went cold a very, very long time ago and I have absolutely know why the investigation has continued to be funded.
-
..... have absolutely "no idea" why the investigation has continued to be funded.

Sorry but on this occasion I don't see the funny side of it.. but that's probably because I don't find anything to do with Madeline missing funny.
-
Yet another £ 150K - what a total and utter disgrace.
The first thing that the money should be used for is to invite each and everyone of the Tapas 9 to take a polygraph test.
It is utterly scandalous that public money is spend in this way without the public being given at least some information on the "new lines of inquiry"
I honestly cannot express how angry this makes me >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

The first thing that the money should be used for is to invite each and everyone of the Tapas 9 to take a polygraph test.
"Proponents will say the test is about 90 percent accurate. Critics will say it's about 70 percent accurate," said Frank Horvath of the American Polygraph Association.
-
And guilty people will say it's 0% accurate
-
I have calmed down but only a little.
Is there not something very strange going on here.
Why do the Met ask for more money for this case and not others and why do the Home Office grant them the money and not others.

I’ve been watching the documentary on Netflix for the last two days, but haven’t quite finished yet; it’s very intense.
At first, I thought the McCanns were guilty, but then I watched on, and found:
The DNA and blood tests were inconclusive
The car which made the sniffer dog go mad was hired 25 days after Madeleine’s disappearance
Would the Tapas group all lie at once to shield a murder/manslaughter; I believe Masons stick together except in cases of murder or treason
Despite rigorous searching, no body has been found
I suspect we’ll never know the full story, but the McCanns should never have left their children alone. If they’d not been well off middle class folk, I think there’d have been more criticism of them for this.

Whilst I agree the McCann's deserve all criticism that comes their way because they left their children at home. To suggest that they have been let off lightly because of class smacks of desperation to me. They obviously have some very good PR people as quite frankly I have never liked the look of them and always thought they were just very dodgy.

Two quotes from the "parents" that always stick in my mind.....
Kate McCann Quote:
Kate McCann wrote of her daughter's "PERFECT LITTLE GENITALS TORN APART" on page 129 of the book she claims to have written for her children.
What kind of mother could possibly have written that ?
Gerry McCann:
When asked how he felt after the first week said:
Certainly, you know, at the end of that first week there was so much emotion that we had spent and we actually had a period where we discussed this openly that we felt devoid, completely devoid of emotion. The analogy that I like to use is a bit like when we were students and you’d got to your overdraft limit and you’d gone beyond it and there was just nothing left in the tank I was
totally shattered.
How can any father whose daughter is missing possibly make that analogy far less like to use it.
THEY MAKE ME SICK >:( >:( >:(
-
Madmart, I remember going to Calis after Madeleine disappeared, and seeing posters of her everywhere. It was on the news for weeks.
Was there this media attention or money spent when Ben Needham disappeared?
I don’t like the McCanns at all; what made them think it was ok to leave their children to drink wine and eat tapas with their friends? I’ve heard criticisms of couples out at night with their children asleep in pushchairs, but at least they are with their parents.
-
Was there this media attention or money spent when Ben Needham disappeared?
No, because this was pre the days of the internet, instant global news, knowledge of child trafficking, paedophilea, widespread DNA testing etc. A totally different era.
-
Just wondering how the Met Police are getting on in finding Madeleine McCann.
Have they exhausted all existing leads and/or found new ones.
Surely with the monies being granted and spent we are entitled to updates.
