I was lucky to have had a career involving a lot of travel and eating in some pretty good places.

Memorable amongst the finer restaurants are a top three: -

Vlado's in Melbourne. Wonderful steaks (and nothing but steak)

Palm Restaurant in New York. Wide range of great food and lively atmosphere with brilliant, happy waiters

Veeraswamy in London. Authentic (high end) Indian food with great service

Amongst those I could afford on a regular basis...........

Mozaik (it's way up there for the reasons we all know)

Dick Turpin's Café (a tumbledown shack that is long - closed) on the A30 near Heathrow. Best ever Full English

Union Inn, Newton Abbot (Devon) - Sunday Roast. Great quality with proper roast potatoes and real gravy for under 6 quid.

BOAC staff canteen in the 70's - great meals at low, low prices (my first ever "eating out" experience).

Some great memories there.

Lovely, nostalgic topic.

Having a humble bacon sarnie now.........
Eaten in so many good restaurants over the years that it's hard to reduce them to a top ten.

A few memorables, in no particular order and for a variety of reasons, are:

Albores, Jerez de la Frontera
Amrit Sagar, Udaipur
Bar Tivoli, San Sebastian
Collinsons, Dundee
Giritli, Istanbul
Dinos, Glasgow (closed now :()
Bota Alta, Lisbon
La Carbona, Jerez de la Frontera
Cumhuriyet Bir, Istanbul

MB would make the top ten if I was forced to choose and if the Megri Locanta hadn't gone to sh1t it'd maybe squeezed in on the basis of their iskender and nostalgia.

Sorry folks, while Anatolia was good, it wouldn't be in my top ten.  Mainly due to the inconsistency - our girls liked it, and we ate there fairly often but the food was a bit hit and miss.

JF

Dinos wasn't anywhere near as good as it used to be before closing John.  Used to love going there too
