After reading today on the Fethiye Times website about a lady who went to renew her car tax and was over charged, I decided to go onto the website and check our car I followed the instructions myself and lo and behold I have been paying a higher rate than I should, also got Turkish friend to double check and basically they are rating our car between 3-6 years when it is older and comes under a different category. So a trip to the tax office next week to kindly ask for my 200ytl back!

Good luck hopefully, you may get a full return of overpaid monies :)

I have just checked ours and we have also been over charged by 50tl. Think we have worked ours out, looks like we have been charged for a minibus and not kamyon, trip to the office for us. me thinks as what we have been charged is for a year not for 6 months, and I am sure we don,t own a minibus now :)

After an hour in the tax office today, it seems it was the engine size that had been inputted incorrectly into their computer system although they double checked on the vehicle log book and the copy of the sale document which they had on file from the notery - so they were given a turkish written letter with our complaint and the payment tax receipts - all monies owning will be paid directly into my bank account within 10 days. So that is a successful story and so glad I checked.

Nice people!!! Its a nice story - don't always want doom and gloom!!
-
Yes it is a nice story - the yawn was for the continual suggestions by a certain sector of our society who think everything and everyone is out to rip off Brits, but still choose to live there!
-
My yawn was for the comment by Fethiye 2003 not your's Denise. Well done on getting the money back.
-
All forgiven then xxx No conspiracy me thinks just a genuine mistake - it happens - I make enough of them!! LOL

A nice amount of nearly 300ytl was paid from car tax office into bank account within 10 days - great outcome!

Great result Denise:D
I heard recently, in Bulgaria, that you now need residency to tax your car ;): :): :): :) ;)
