Looks like if there's a complicated way to do things the Turkish adopt it.
Why does buying, owning and driving a car have to be so complex. The UK system is dead easy and it works.

Yes, Baz makes a good point, if your UK driving licence expires and you don't have a UK address then you legally can't renew it and so you have to apply for a Turkish licence. The problem of course is that you can't apply for a Turkish licence if your UK licence has expired and is therefore no longer valid.

Thank you George! very informative.
Did they mention about residencies only being renewable a year at a time, or give any clue as to why this is going to change?

No Linda they didn't mention that, probably because the new law hasn't been fully drafted yet. But I wouldn't hold your breath. The SGK law is finished and published and the pro consulate confirmed he couldn't make sense of it and neither could the people in the SGK office !

I went along today and met Mr Gonder, he was very helpful and sits in n office on the first floor, he asked me to sign a paper to state that we wanted to remain in the scheme ( he did also offer the option to opt out ) and issued us with this notice :

As my husband and I have only been in SGK for 3 months, do we still need to go to the office to state we want to remain in it.  I would have thought if we keep paying each month we want to stay in it!
