New laws on property rental
« on: February 04, 2014, 07:55:56 AM »
Hi. We own a villa in Calis which we rent through a local agent. All is working out really well for us but I have heard that Turkey is changing the law on renting villa's. I can see that this is driven by income tax, but the rules seem very confusing and looks almost impossible to manage or implement from the UK.

Seems we need to register our villa as a business (how?), must notify the local police, send copies of guests passports to the police as each renter arrives and now we must use an accountant to pay tax rather than direct.

Anybody aware of this? Would appreciate some advise and guidance.

Thanks

My advice is "Don't Rent It Out" or "Keep Shtuum"

The short answer is that nobody knows ! We made enquiries about this in early January this year only to be told that after the elections this Spring all would be revealed / changed ! . Maybe.

'Maybe'............ sounds like the best answer. In my experience 'Maybe' in Turkey means never.

Thanks for the advise.

Keep shtuum!! good advice under normal circumstances Chris. Unfortunately we have a very angry Turk on our complex, and he has made it his lifes ambition to annoy as many owners as he can. We have had many visits from  tax officials, who have interveiwed owners and guests alike. Some owners had already registered their intention to rent their property with the LOCAL tax office but it seems the ones that visited the complex new nothing of this. All a bit worrying for owners that do let their property, or even let relataives and freinds use it.
