Hi all, I have been getting a lot of complaints from my customers,
about getting harass walking down hissy high st, not just the bars
and restaurants, the cloths shops, supermarkets as well.:(
This is supposed to be not aloud by local law so I'm told ?
I hope it don't get out of hand like some of the other places
in turkey:(

I would have thought Hisaronou is probably the most likely place in the area for 'harrasment' its a very lively commercialised place with everyone after you business and the streets are full of holidaymakers wandering around most of the night
-
We didn't get harrasment last Tuesday night or Friday night from anyone. Just the usual leaflets on trips.
-
Never been harassed in Hisaronu myself (well only by my hubby hehe). I think it's all down to interpretation. Yes people will speak to you as you walk down the street, but is that harassment? I always find that if you give a polite "No thankyou", you tend to be left alone.
-
I agree with you minimoo, thats why I put harrasment in brackets, if you live here you get used to it and it no longer becomes harrassment, but if you are on holiday it may be seen as harrassment.
-
I think the only place you will find "harrasment"
in Hisaronu is the Monday Market in the season.
But that applies to Fethiye also.
-
My sons have just come back from hissi, there out there all the time, and they said it was getting out of hand at some of the places, even some of them getting angry when told no thank you,
no thank you, NO THANKYOU.
-
If that is the case, these places need to be reported to the Zabita. They will soon put a stop to it.
-
It's true Hisaronu does have a "No Hassle" policy which most businesses adhere to. However it is part of Turkish culture to try to promote or invite custom in front of business premises. We go through Hisaronu regularly and rarely experience any problems.
Normally a smile and no thanks does the trick and just keep walking.

This was a favourite moan of mine when I first moved across here, but nowadays the problem seems to have diminished.A pal of mine was so fed up with my moaning that he had a Tshirt printed up for me which read in Turkish "I am not a tourist,I live here". If anybody wants to borrow it let me know. :).
-
If you can manage a reply in Turkish it seems to put you in a bracket of "Not Tourists" and you tend to get no hassle:D
-
I been informed one of the worst is a new supermarket called Morison next to azda

Tesekkurler - pronounced tesek - kurler is usually taken to mean no thanks in Turkey

We were handed some leaflets about trips but there was no harassment when we walked into Hisaronu.

Been there last 2 weeks and no sign of "harrassment" just the usual turkish way of life, met many people visiting Turkey for the first time that were so bowled over with the place they are returning next year. Look at it it as being invited and then politely declining if you do not want to accept. We have come across some great places that we may have not gone into if was not for someone talking to us at the entrance. You can have a bit of fun with them too rather than take it all too seriously.

Davidzz, your SO right. been going to H for 7 years.....never ever been harrassed UNLESS u include " Hello would you like to see our menu" Thats not harrasment thats trying to drum up trade.......like we do in in covent garden, london or anywhere in England....or any where in the world...... I love H and all the resturants..bless them.....they are only trying to earn a wage xx :) if you dont like......dont go xxxx
-
just came back no harassment at all.was quite shocked as were i live in marmaris they are still at it harrasing people even thought they know they will be closed down so was a nice change :)
-
Glad to here that 8) Thad was the most important thing
to me when i invested in hissy:D

There are strict guidelines and these are enforced by the Zabita. The rule is that a trader or restaurant owner is not allowed to tout for business beyond their shop front. They risk closure if caught. Last season a number of restaurants in Olu deniz were closed for 3 days for touting for business on the streets.
-
What a sad world we live in!!! Its got silly, We go on holiday and complain when the resturant owners apply tactics to try and get trade in.....of course they should, some one commented earlier if it wasnt for people plugging trade at their resturants they wouldnt have gone in. What is Hassle...it needs to be defined. Resturants trying to plug their buisness, is not harrasment in my eyes. Some people are SO sensitive!!!!. We have the same over here (England) but we knock anything simular abroad. Were old enough and ugly enugh to say a polite NO and that seems to work. \im sure and hope most people agree.

I do not want is ISTEMIYORUM in Turkish.
We have eaten is YEMEGI YEDDIK but the G is sort of silent.
