Calypso Bar
« on: May 06, 2011, 15:42:13 PM »
There is a new bar open in Hisaronu called the Calypso Bar. Starting this Saturday he is doing traditional Carribean food and music. This is not a case of a Turkish chinese or Turkish Indian. This is a genuine man from the Carribean. He sang at our Carribean night in Calis and several othyer venues and he can be seen performing every night. This week it is jerk chicken. As it gets busier he will be expanding his menu but cookingwill be  authentic . Something different to look forward too

We spent a lot of time talking to Bert (owner) last October after his gig at 4Seasons, he is a very interesting guy, great entertainer and wish him well in his new venture.

Can highly reccomend Bert, if you want to hear a brilliant guitarist with an equally singing voice, pay him a visit. He is fantastic doing UB 40 and Eric Clapton. The 3 C's will definately be getting a coach load up the hill to see him.

Wishing Bert the greatest success with his Restaurant - if his food is as good as his singing then success is guaranteed  :)

28 of us went there last night. 12 of us had the jerk chicken and 8 people had the spicy grilled fish. Both were absolutley delicious and served with fresh salad carribean rice and peas and chips. All served hot.   He is just sticking to those 2 meals because he wants to keep things simple. The place was packed and he was having to turn regular customers away last night who come to listen to him singing. It has a really good chilled out atmosphere. (Being authentic carribean) it would have. Drinks are a good price too.

We found this place when we passed on our last afternoon and heard Bob Marley playing.  We had a drink in the bar and wished we had the chance to go back.  Love Jerk Chicken:P
Will give it a try in September.  We never met the owner but it sounds like he will need bigger premises.
