Title: Why 'not' Calis...
Post by: Jazz53 on October 23, 2017, 10:57:21 AM
I hope to be visiting soon...in view of possibly buying!
I certainely can see all the positives of life in Fethiye...and Calis seems to tick the boxes!..
Why Calis rather than other areas?....and Calis in Winter?

Would love to hear the negatives of all year living in this area....  ;)

I'd suggest that you try renting for the first year. It'll give you plenty of opportunity to find out for yourself whether Calis is the right place to be buying a property. You'll get a whole variety of opinions on here but only you can decide from experience what's right for you.

Thanks for replying!....i look forward to checking out the areas...
The plan is to first check out Fethiye...and then Bodrum...
But i feel Fethiye will probably suit better...

Just about to start our first winter here in calis,  pretty sure it's not going to put me off living here,  have been a resident in calis since April  & love every day & what it brings, sights, people, places all fantastic,  plenty to see & do, wife is going to do volunteer teaching at a local school on top of other stuff and I'm happy gardening, cycling,  walking the dog amongst other things,  I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Hi Jazz
We don't stay all year in our apartment but I tend to agree with  KKOB in that renting first is a good idea.
There are many areas in Calis, all of which have their own attraction but, what we all want and need from a place differs greatly.  By renting first you have a period where you can settle into the lifestyle but make an informed choice about where you want to live permanently.
Once the forum is opened up fully read everything you can find on living there.  I'm sure you will find many more positives than negatives.

Happy house hunting and remember to let us know how you get on

Quite agree about the renting bit. It gives you time to assess the area and if you do find you like somewhere better you can always move at the end of your rental term.

As for location would definitely choose Calis. It is a lovely relaxed place particularly in the winter but there are enough bars and restaurants staying open and enough activities going on to keep you occupied.  And of course Fethiye and all its shops and attractions are only a 5 minute drive away

Yes, get in touch with Kent Vets. As I often work abroad when my wife visits me, then we always put our dog there. He comes back quit happy and apparently gets lots of exercise.

Dare I say it but there is a FB group that people who look after pets. ( I will try to find out their name) Its a non payment group, maybe if someone looks after your pet, you may be able to do the same for them.  As for winter, it brings its delights with many activities, so many groups.  Painting, walking, cycling, coffee mornings, yoga, Turkish lessons and more.  After the heat and vibe of the summer and its many visitors, its a welcome change.

We moved here 3 years ago and spent the first two months (Nov and Dec) in Calis where we intended to set up home.
However, we were very disappointed with how few places stayed open over winter, the whole area seemed so desolate.
So we changed our plans and settled in Fethiye, 10 minutes walk from the Tuesday market and all the dolmus routes.
We still visit Calis a couple of times a week, especially in summer.
We (and our Jack Russell) are loving it ! (Still renting)

Are dogs allowed to run free...ie on the beaches...?

Thanks....  :)

We fly back independently (and the other dog sits) because our respective offspring live miles apart.
Max is lead walked only (he's nearly 14) but lots of people let their dogs roam free (and pick up after !)
