Title: Cheaper meat coming soon
Post by: nichola on November 06, 2017, 08:12:27 AM
Available only in BIM and A101

A deal to import meat from Serbia has been negotiated and only two supermarkets with chains across Turkey have been approved to sell it.

One kg of minced meat will be sold for 29 liras and one kg of meat cubes will be sold for 31 liras.

These chains will not be allowed to sell red meat for higher than the above-mentioned prices, the ESK (Meat and Milk Board) stated.

It's not in stores just yet though but expected to be soon.

Its good news for buyers, just dont get why its only those two supermarkets.  Surely now customers will not buy from other shops, which will still sell at a higher price??

BB - the government wanted supermarkets that had branches all over Turkey - there were 18 supermarkets that applied but only two that met this criteria.

The ESK have also pledged to introduce measures internally to 'prop up meat production' and reduce the cost of meat by 40%.

Isn't it because BIM and A101 are regarded as pious, and support the government ?

Not as it has been presented in the news reports and having travelled to many towns and villages all over Turkey it is true that A101 and Bim are the only two supermarkets that exist everywhere with the possible exception of Migros - but Migros can't be found in many smaller towns and definitely not in villages.

And it is absolutely nothing more than a happy coincidence that BIM happens to be co-owned by Erdogan's son Bilal. Honest.

Bilal seems to have gone off the radar after fleeing Italy following money laundering charges.

Perhaps he's got his head down in a kitchen somewhere, packing mince.

Whatever the criteria for chosen supermarkets was or wasn't, it's good that ordinary Turkish people will now find red meat buying a little more affordable.

You can try BIM as well Jack.

We don't buy much meat so haven't really been paying attention to what meats they've been stocking in the fridges.
