Man Dies in Sea at Patara Beach
« on: June 20, 2012, 21:01:07 PM »
A timely reminder (in tragic circumstances) that Patara Beach may look idyllic but please note their are strong undercurrents in the sea there:

"Tragedy struck this morning at Patara beach, when a young Turkish man was caught by strong currents, and drowned. This happened at around 09.00, at the busier end of the beach, close to the cafe and sunbed hire shop. It was noticed that the man had got into trouble, but by the time rescuers reached him it was too late".

We were discussing this on chat last night.

Man drowned opposite Letoon one year when we were there.

Sad.

i have been in the sea at patara swimming and the under currants are very strong,if you did not realise it they can sweep you away in seconds
i went in and ended up further along the beach without realising the currants
