Desooting the chimney.
« on: March 07, 2013, 19:27:04 PM »
We have  a Soba and have been using it all winter with no problems and still no problems as i write, and as the chimney has not been used before as we had to knock through to add the flue.
Now the reason for this post, i was talking to someone in a pub last week and they said that the chimney should have a carton of stuff put on the fire when lit for it to go up and out the chimney cleaning and making it safe as it goes.
Has anyone else heard of this or even done ,or do regular.
We normally only burn wood but every so often do chuck a couple of handfuls of coal in as well if that makes any difference.
Any advice would be great. :D

We have a set of drain rods and you can attach a sweeping attachment to the  top, this means you can use them to clean the drains and also sweep the chimney.  All the Farmers around here have them and told us about them years ago.  Cannot count the number of times we have lent them out.

They usually drop a live chicken down the chimney to loosen the soot in Kaya.

Chuckleworthy but absolutely true!

As the poor bird falls into the darkness it panics and the more the panics, the more it flaps and the more it flaps, the more soot it removes. Once at the bottom you can stick it on the barby, lovely chicken with an interesting smoky flavour  ;)

This isn't recommended or endorsed by Animal Aid as far as I know.

That's all very well, but a chicken is useless for putting down a blocked drain.. :o  ;) :D
Drain rods and chimney attachments at the D.I.Y Shop in Calis Beach. :D

Sell what you want in Uygar's the wood seller along from Tansas on the 22 metre road brand names are Popsi and Bacasil last time I bought  the cost was 2tl each or three packs for 5tl.
I would have thought that all of the wood/soba selling shops have sold it,
