Get your fire hot, the hotter the better apparently, and just throw the packet on, I think it says on the packet, it should be a packet for every 2m of flue.

But I have been informed by lots of people that these addatives are not worth the money they cost.

That's all very well, but a chicken is useless for putting down a blocked drain.. :o   ;) :D

There ya go. Typical bloody woman. Off at a tangent again. The thread's about chimneys, not drains!  ;)

As Baz say's get your fire really hot throw the whole thing in,packet as well, watch the pretty sparkles.Don't know if it works or not, although Turkish friends swear by it.
Was advised to use it every 7-10 days!

I have used three packs at the start of the cold season for 4 years now, not had any problems, so I take it it does work.

Thats great , thank you everyone for the advice and the laughs . I'll go see what i can buy tomorrow and give it a try maybe try the chicken first to loosen the soot.

No really i won't do that, I havn't got a ladder long enough to reach the top of the chimney anyway. LOL.

Have to make sure i do the chemical thing at night so i get to see the fireworks ha ha Hope none of my neighbours will have there washing out overnight though. HA HA  : :) :o

I can only endorse everything I have read here, the Popsi & Bacasil work we'll and is available in loads of places at the start of winter but usually stocks run quite low by now so you might have to hunt for it a bit.

Just an addendum to the chicken method (which is usually quite effective if done on a monthly basis) if you are worried about cruelty you could always get Dick van Dyke to clear the chimney but be warned, he might start singing in an American style Cockney accent! Now that would be cruel!
