Post Tampering
« on: June 21, 2013, 09:02:43 AM »
I've had little post delivered here over the past year, in fact my most prolific corespondent has been HMRC who seems to be obsessed with telling me what my tax code is.

Last weekend I received a jiffy envelope from my Daughter and Grandson containing birthday and Father's Day cards, the jiffy envelope had obviously been opened but I was shocked to see that the envelope on each card had been ripped off, the cheeky so and so's put the torn envelopes back inside the Jiffy bag !

Yes it is one of the most frustrating and irritating things over there - there was a time when everything came - letters, things bought on eBay, presents. Then something happened and very little got to us (or got to us untampered with). It was like day and night, everything changed one day. Some members will also remember when no Brits were getting any post at all and it turned out there were literally bags and bags of post in Fethiye which was first denied then we were told to go to the sorting office and search through it all for our own.

People kindly sending cards and gifts thousands of miles to your kids for their birthday or Christmas, only for them to fail in the last few streets was one of the things that contributed to me deciding to move back, believe it or not.

Totally agree Keith, when one lives in a country like U.K. where the mail deliveries are sacrosanct, it really "rips my knitting", when I hear of mail being tampered with in a country like Turkey, or any other country, for that matter !!   >:(

It may not be the PTT that are doing it. It could well be that it's the Gumruk looking for drugs or stuff that's liable to tax..
