Turks Don’t Have Any Seaside Manners
« on: August 24, 2013, 18:20:18 PM »
Not according to me, according to one of their own - Belgin Akaltan at Hurriyet Daily News. "Turks don’t have any seaside manners. Some of us have acquired certain manners but we generally have bad manners. Not only on the beach, but almost everywhere. "

It's a bit harsh

They say the truth hurts. It must be painful being a Turk.

In my experience while on holiday in various resorts in Turkey, the locals have much better manners than us Brits.  We have been offered seats on Dolmus and busses  (even had a marriage proposal from a Turkish lad - though that's another story!!), have been greeted as old friends after only window shopping, been given cups of tea in many shops, been offered lifts while out walking. We are always greeted with a friendly wave and smile while passing by, and except for the surly barstewards at the airport, have rarely encountered a grumpy Turk!  ;)

I feel that the amount of plastic bags, bottles, & especially, the amount of cigarette butts which are just chucked all over the beach, is bloody disgusting, & mostly discarded by Turks !!  >:( God only knows what their floors are like indoors, if this is the way they treat someone else's property. Pure filth, & totally inexcusable. !! >:(

A lot of Turks are extremely house proud but don't give a hoot about outside!  They just throw things into the garden instead of taking them to the bin.  One of my friends gives one week for stuff to be removed and if not she puts it in the bin.

Wrote fairly lengthy reply - decided against.  Can now only ask, do you work for Thomsons or Thomas Cook?

Old friend = someone who'll spend money.

Marriage proposal = western female with a pulse (and not much else).

Surly Bhastard at airport = doing his job.

Next...!

I have to say the thousads of "out of town" Turks that arrive in Fethiye in their flash cars, over the Summer months do seem to be extremly rude to the local shopkeepers, waiters, etc. They seem to think that because they have money they are better than the local people.

This year, two separate restaurant/bars told us that they prefer the British customers any day to Turkish. They are more demanding and rude and don't spend!
