Title: Train to Istanbul
Post by: Rimms on June 07, 2008, 18:56:09 PM
In September we fancy getting the sleeper train to Istanbul, I think it goes from Denizli. Has anyone made the journey and have any advice?

Cheers

There's an article about someone's trip on the train from Denizli to Istanbul in the Fethiye Times.

I had seen that KKOB, but their website does not let you navigate back that far.

We're thinking of going to Istanbul in the summer for a couple of days.  Didn't know you could get a train.  Where could we find out about it do you think.  I'd need times and prices etc.  Thought we'd have to fly!!

If you look at www.seat61.com and click on Turkey, there is section that provides details of train travel within Turkey.  Quite useful.

Is there a bus that runs from Fethiye to Denizli and if so what is the journey time. We have been told that the Istanbul sleeper train train leaves Denizli late afternoon and gets in early next morning. I know we could just fly from Dalaman but for once we are in no rush.

Thanks

Tinks, we will be doing this trip for about 4 nights at the very end of September as we have to come back to the U.K October 5th. Would be great if you are free around that time.

Where would the nearest train station be from Fethye/Calis to Istanbul>  How much would tickets be. Is it a very long journey.

Thank you

We flew to Istanbul from Dalaman in June took 1 hour, however, really like the idea of a sleeper train and one day when we have more time we would definitely think about doing that.

Noreen,

Noreen,

I think the nearest station that runs a train to Istanbul is at Denizli, about 2 hours from Calis but it seems thay have the Worlds longest running track repairs going on there. We wanted to go last September and were dissapointed that the train was not running but our plans for this September/October are also on hold as the same track repairs seem to be underway.

Could always get the plane but somehow, that seems a bit too easy and why rush when we have a month to waste?

I was told the toilets on the trains are the traditional Turkish ones. :-\

The Turkish State Railway timetable was revised in July 2009 apparently and the train to Denizli is no longer on it.

What ones did you think they would be?

People who I know who travelled on it were expecting European style as a option. They said that by the end of the journey from Istanbul is was not a pleasant experience using the loos.  :)Maybe it was just bad luck on that particular journey.

The train is no longer on the timetable at the moment anyway. I do not know why or if it will come back at some later date.
