Title: Security at Dalaman
Post by: Highlander on June 25, 2017, 18:33:56 PM
I would estimate that approximately half the passengers were sitting at the gate for our flight home when it was cordoned off and those inside invited to stand outside the gate.

Security tables and equipment then appeared and everyone was given another security check which consisted of a passport check against the passenger list, a body search and a fairly thorough hand luggage search.

Now I am all for security, but if something had been found at this stage, surely that would mean that all the previous checks were superfluous.

We were lucky arriving 4 hours early we missed all the coaches coming in.  However, had a pat down at the entry and bag search and turn on phone and open purse and make up bag.  Then another bag search at customs and another pat down an the guy went through my purse.  Then at Departure Lounge another pat down (I was getting to like it by then) and search of my bag.
I suppose they are not taking chances. I did some some vaping stuff being taken from someones bag at the last search, so only thing I can say, it must have been missed at the other two searched.  If these searches are keepin us safe.  I will be happy.  ;)

it must have been missed at the other two searched.

Unless the security check I described is being undertaken at every gate for every flight then the other searches are clearly not keeping us safe because things appear to have been missed at the first two.

Perhaps they'd had a tip-off ?

They have cordoned off the boarding gates for quite a time now,
and I don't see any problem of of being searched again. just a few minutes hand luggage
I suppose they are making sure, because a lot of people are confused about computers/exc.

someone else may be able to confirm this but I got the impression that all the international flights were having the extra departure gate checks but Turkish internal flights (as they are sharing the terminal at present).

I was told that maybe we might know someone who works in the airport who could give us something to blow the plane up.  (Manchester airport security staff)

Not enough security, folks moan.

Too much security, folks moan.

Life would be so boring without the moaners to keep us entertained.  :)

Hopefully airport staff are subjected to rigorous security checks as well.

we felt very safe on our holiday return at dalaman airport last week security checks re assured us 100 %.they also during the last check upon boarding upon the swab test picked up my very strong morphine patch that I have to wear on my upper body I just showed them a letter from my consultant  [ in part Turkish I must add ] and I was then given the ok to board.

HOWEVER upon landing at Gatwick at 4 pm  with hundreds of people around not once during our exit did we see a single polceman  no security no nothing in the arrivals / meet area , we were glad to get off the airport in our car as we did not feel safe at all

Sorry folks I have no idea how I have managed to repeat my post, when I was trying to modify it!!! and now I cant remove the bloody thing.

I was trying to add that the Turkish internal flights did NOT appear to be having the extra security checks.

Why do the tourists on T.A not check the UK Government advice and/or their carrier's policy before they fly.

As far as I know if your device is over a certain size it goes in the hold switched off. End of.

As a tourist do you really need your Ipad for those few hours at the end of your holiday.

Because they'd rather have to opinion of a load of mad old codgers on a forum than a load of mad old codgers on a government website.  ;)

Flying from Birmingham we put our computers in the hold.
when we got to the check in desk, we and others were
told to put them in hand luggage,
Our friends flew out a few days later and were told to put them in their hold luggage,
so you can see why tourists are confused?

I put mine in the hold from Luton to Dalaman and had to get them out. Going through at Dalaman coming home was fairly smooth till the last check at the gate where they had 3 flights from our gate causing so much confusion as to which lane to stand in. Then the queues were split into men and women. The rigorous checks took a long time especially for those who just take carry on luggage. They had to take everything out of very stuffed cases and then the security person just shoved it all back in any old how. Our plane was delayed by 30 minutes which wasn't too bad.

When flying from the U.K to Turkey you are allowed to have your electronic equipment in your hand luggage and you can use it on the flight.  Coming back from Turkey to the U.K.  All electronic equipment (apart from phones) must be put into hold luggage and is not allowed in the cabin.
There is no confusion, these are the rules.

If we didn't have rules, where would we be ? France !

If we had too many rules, where would we be ? Germany !

I travelled on 18 June and it was the same for us. They cordoned off a section of the downstairs departure area but they didn't give any explanation so people were confused. They checked passports, boarding passes, patted people down and searched hand luggage.  Some people had swabs taken of their hand luggage to check for explosives.  I wonder if the Turkish government realise how lax checks are for people travelling from the UK to their country.  OK, because of the close proximity to Syria, they do have to be security conscious butmany people are put off by the lack of information and have vowed not to return to Turkey.

If a lack of information at an airport puts someone off returning to that country then, to put it bluntly, they are a complete tit.

We were "subjected" to the same check at the Gate as we were in June.

Everyone told to leave the gate which was then cordoned off while scanning machines were set up.

The first ten or so passengers to go through had their boarding cards checked, were then frisked and were asked to empty their hand luggage.

When it came to our turn, the official took a cursory glance at our boarding cards and waved us through.

Can someone please, please explain the logic in that to me.

Sometime after returning to our seats, which were some distance from the security check area, I needed to pay a visit to the loo. Guess what -  the very same official who had waved my through sent me back to get my boarding card before she would allow me access to the loo which was outwith the cordoned off area. Perhaps she was taking the &^%£.

Perhaps they didn't think you looked clever enough to have hidden anything.  :)

That may well be the case but I have no idea how the present Mrs H got through with her hand luggage and dressed as she was.
