Must be for picking it up off the ground then ;)

Curiosity gets the better of me here. What do you do with all your rubbish?

We have just completed the purchase of an apartment in Calis - could someone give us an idea as to when we pay this tax and do we just walk into the 'council offices' and give the address to find out how much we have to pay? We did ask the solicitor but never received an answer.

You can go to the offices with your tapu and pay. Your solicitor should have replied, they get paid to  :)

Yes and make sure you have your Tapu with you. They will give you an abone nr for which they charge and which is your unique reference number for future dealings with the Council.

Sorry this has taken me so long to answer. We take it down to the nearest bin which is 800 mtrs down the road and belongs to the local hotel.

My understanding is, if you have only just purchased and completed your Tapu then the the taxes etc would be paid up until May of next year.  Rules could have changed (as they usually do, and often) I could be wrong and someone will correct me.

Maybe they don't base it on you having a bin or not - just on the fact that you have a house and they would expect you to create rubbish and that they would have to collect it at some point/some place.

Interesting point though - maybe if we all wrote to our local council and said we didn't want our bin emptying they would reduce our council tax? mmmmmm Computer might say NO ;)
