UK fiting to 2 Pin Plug

Hi - not being an ace diy'er - I have 2 convector heaters that we brought out from the UK and thought it was time to get them out.

To save me using adaptors do I just buy 2 x 2 pin plugs and rewire - if so (never wired a 2 pin) is there a place for the earth or do you just tape it and tuck it in and hope for the best??

The wires are earthed inside just not at the plug end Ian but it sound dangerous to me. Never hope for the best with electric especially here. Why not phone Engin. I am sure he will know.

Anne - many thanks for using the word "dangerous" it made me think properly - I will walk down the main road and go into an electricians and pay for it to be done - safest bet

There is a terminal for the earth same as a three pin that is what the metal strip on the outside is.
The 2 pins that come moulded on have no earth as the appliance is double insulated.

Yes they do have earthed sockets and plugs and you can find them everywhere.
the earth wire is called toprak in Turkish.

MrKeith / Starman - many thanks - might just buy a plug with a metal strip and see - do you think a 2KW convector heater is ok with a plug without a fuse?

I must sound a bit "thick" but a few weeks ago the microwave packed in so I thought - well before I chuck it I may as well take it to pieces and tighten everything up - which I did and it started working again - problem free ever since.

It was only a few days later that someone told me how many people a year die from messing with microwaves !!

Take one to an electrical shop and ask them to "montage" the new plug for you. Then you can see how it's done.

Nothing is fused here and the same goes for a majority of European countries.
The sockets will be 16amp and the lights probably 10 though some may be 5.
All it means is that the appliance is more likely to get damaged should there be a fault, you would need a 13a fuse anyway.
It doesn't even matter which way round you wire the live and neutral.
A lot of electrical problems to do with over heating and circuits cutting out can be down to loose connections.

When you open the link, right click on it and select translate with bing from the options, it will auto detect turkish to english. i use this often to read turkish sites, i use windows 7 so i dont know if it will work with earlier editions, but worth a try.[^]

I never use translators (have no need) and am on a MAC OS so couldnt say about windows but I guess it is useful for those that dont know Turkish.
