Winter Sun
« on: January 11, 2011, 09:34:30 AM »
This is our first trip over for a winter break and we have been pleasantly surprised how bright and sunny it is.Yesterday we actually recorded 30o!!! on our balcony o.k in direct sunlight but wow!!
When the light drops it does become chilly, however it has not stopped us going out on an evening and makes for a good atmosphere round the log burning stoves/braziers.
Calis/Fethiye is not just for summer breaks we will certainly be looking at it for next winter (visa's permitting)

Absolutely Dave - I remember restaurants like the Orient used to have a hole in the roof and a log burner right in the middle of the restaurant with seats all round it. People of all nations used to sit around it and it was wonderful. Or getting the seats at the BBQ in Ocakbasi. We always loved winter in Fethiye and Calis, in the end we loved it much more than summer.

I like most months over there but I never seem to find January and February that great. Often rainy.

Winter was my favourite time of year when we lived in Calis, lovely walks without sweating to death and not being hassled at the markets etc, it was lovely to sit in the sun and then go home and light your fire!

Just returned after a five week hol'and over that period we had four
weeks of sunshine!!and were confined indoors for only one full day. With our return flight via Antalya we took advantage of a couple of nights in the Hotel Lara Beach, highly reccomended but as with most all-incl a bit remote so beware 40euros taxi to a/p give yourself plenty of time as we did and two buses cost total 3.5tl!!
Maybe we were lucky this time with the weather but will certainly be repeating the exercise next year.
