Telephone in the UK

I am going to England for 3 days. Can I use my Turkish telephone (Turkcell) whilst I am there? Thanks

You'll have to make sure you activate roaming on it before you leave Turkey and it could be very expensive to use it depending on what tariff you're on.

I think the default Turkcell setting for international roaming is OFF.  So to switch it on you should use your handset to dial in *111#.  But as KKOB says international roaming can be very expensive, international roaming with Turkcell is even more expensive, so use wisely!!

It was always not possible on pay as you go, could be switched on (on request) if you had a contract.

The roaming option is available on pay as you go (Turkcell).

If you do have a contract,you can ask to temporarily up the contract to be able to use for a specified number of minutes in the UK for a set amount.This works out much cheaper. I usually go to Candan telecom and find them helpful.

If you have a smart phone, remember that once the roaming has been switched on your phone will still pick up web data when on , even if YOU are not actually accessing the web on your phone.    There was a programme about it this am. One couple spent 4 days in Spain and hardly accessed the web at all and they got a mighty shock of a £3,000+  on their next bill.
