Scary! I always vowed we'd never live in San Francisco or along a fault line, and here we are with a villa in Koca Calis. Noone seems particularly bothered about tremors here despite the huge earthquake suffered by Fethiye some years ago - was it around the 1950s? I have a leaflet that is translated from Turkish telling what to do if an earthquake strikes. One of the things I recall is that you should crouch down on the floor next to the bed, or better to crouch next to a large item e.g. a fridge (doesn't sound v sensible does it? - fridge could fall on you!)

Following the Great Earthquake of 2004, I can report we adopted the following safety reactions:

1. Look at each other, with a "what is that?" expression

2. Wonder why the house is shaking, and literally bending to a fro.

3. Puzzle why we can hear next door's ornaments hitting the floor and smashing, but ours haven't moved.

4. Ask each other "do we stay here or go outside?"

5. Forget 4, as it's finished.

6. Tell child aged three who has now joined us having been awoken by all this,  that it was nothing.

7. Try to think of answer to aforementioned child's question "If it was nothing why is my bedroom light moving around".
