Thank you for you kind words and wishes folks. I've changed my avatar to reflect the "Avian" element.

Can anyone give me a definite answer as to whether me and Mrs TC will have to get an e-visa? Or should we just chance it and present our blue books?

Present your blue books, there is no restriction on  the time you can be out of Turkey on them.  Worst scenario, if, and it is a big if, you get somebody who interprets the rules incorrectly you can always buy an e-visa in Dalaman.
