Calis to Bodrum
« on: October 28, 2017, 13:33:12 PM »
We are thinking of taking a few days in Bodrum on our visit next summer. Does anyone know approximately how long this journey would take by car and the approximate mileage. Many thanks.   :)

Thankyou, Yabanci. Does anyone know if it is an easy drive/good roads?

We have travelled it by bua a few times. Pretty sure it is dual carriageway most of the time. Hairpins up to Mugla but decent surface.

It takes 3-3,5 hours by car. Road is not bad. It is main Mugla - izmir road till Yatagan junction. After Yatagan, there are some narrow parts but not too bad. It is an easy drive.

If you want to break your journey half way, stop off at Akyaka - left turn just after you begin your climb from the plain up the Sakar Tepe zig-zags to the Mugla plateau. Problem with this is you will probably decide to cancel the rest of your trip to Bodrum and stay at the head of the Gulf of Gokova instead of going along to its mouth!

Went for a couple of days a few weeks ago. Agree it is expensive, however did manage to find some reasonably priced restaurants. The castle is closed for refurbishment / repair, for 2 years, it was damaged following the earthquake this summer. Glad I went as it made me appreciate just how stunning the Fethiye area is in comparison.

I'd allow 4 hours assuming a break in driving, the road between yatagan and milas can be tricky with trucks and some single lane carriageway / road works. Traffic in Bodrum  itself  usually very congested. Agree with comment that Fethiye is simply more stunning, and cheaper, that said the best parts of Bodrum are elsewhere on the peninsular, eg Gumuslik, and some of the other  "villages,", together with the bits in between, somewhat similar to the kaya valley, with more Greek style old houses than around  fethiye. Certainly worth exploring, enjoy.
