Herbs and spices
« on: August 05, 2018, 12:31:57 PM »
Hi all,
Well we are here in Calis, a week into our Hol and with it being Sunday we have just st been to
The market to stock up with our favourite spices and herbs.
Are we allowed to take them through nothing to declare in the U.K.?
Also, can we take them in hand luggage?
Any advice most appreciated.
Apologies for any typos, I'm writing this on my phone in full sun!!!  :)

Taken various herbs and spices from Turkey to the UK for years, never had an issue.

Take them in your checked in baggage Loujasmin.

My advice to anyone who hasn't already bought their herbs and spices is to buy them in the supermarket in sealed packs.

Nicola, we usually head for the sisters place in the market for our herbs etc.  Do you recommend the sealed supermarket herbs because they are likely to be fresher ?

I think if you get stopped and searched and they are open spices they will almost definitely be taken off you.

If they are in pre sealed packs then the chances are they will probably let them through.

There are fairly strict laws about bringing foods in and out of countries so I would prefer to play safe.

Also, yes fresher, not exposed to the elements and all manner of people's spit, germs and insects crawling all over them leaving their excrement. I am quite fussy about things like that.

Sorry Loujasmin - hope I'm not putting you off.
