Reading today on the net that someone had their bag taken from an overhead locker on an Easyjet flight from Turkey, that landed in the U.K. When the aircrew were informed, they made the person wait until everyone had left the plane.
The bag was not recovered. However, the Travel Insurance was with Tesco and they told the person that they (Tesco) do not insurance hand luggage only hold luggage.
-
Nonsense. Tesco Bank travel insurance makes no differentiation between hold and hand luggage, except in the case of valuables which are not covered if checked in with hold luggage.

I've no experience of using Tesco insurance but have never heard of anything like that before with any other insurers we have used. You are more likely to have valuables etc in hand luggage so you can keep them nearby rather than going in the hold. In fact, I think some insurers will actually tell you to do this.

O.K. J.F. This is the posting on T.A. Best you get in touch and tell them that this is nonsense, because they don't seem to realise that.....

Here's a link to Tesco Bank travel insurance "small print", you can tell them...

No, and it's unlikely you will - however, I'm sure there is some insurance company, somewhere, that doesn't insure hand luggage (a.k.a. personal possessions!).

I've no doubt there will be John, those nice insurance companies will worm their way out of any claim if they can as we found out to our cost a few years ago in Spain, when we had a hire car broken into. We lost a lot of things including OH's camera bag with a couple of good cameras and equipment in plus presents we bought and, despite them being locked away in the boot out of sight had a hell of a job to get anything back from the insurers. Can't remember the exact details now but I have learnt a lesson from that and do try and check any insurance policies that they cover for what we need.
-
I checked mine and I am covered. Also I am covered for quad biking and spear fishing. But not cover for coming down a mountain on a luge.
-
J.F. I am merely trying to help by reporting something I read on T.A. I am not personally involved. However, I am sure, as Marina says, the insurance company have got out of it some way.
Perhaps it is best we all check our Travel Insurance to see what we are covered for.
However, this has taught me a lesson...no more trying to help..
-
John f Why do you have to say" nonsense" can you not just put your point of view without being nasty. thought we got rid of Des.
-
Because it is nonsense - and if you think that's me being nasty, you really don't know me.

Jacqui - I am genuinely interested in why you appear to set such store by T.A.

In there lies the problem in my opinion.
We don't know you. We only "know" you through what you post on this Forum.

You are right John F I dont know you. Thankfully.

Why all the agro over a simple question - Is your luggage insured.
Surely it was simply a warning to check your policy coverage. So why shoot the messanger.
-
It wasn't a simple question. It was suggesting that, on the basis of third hand information from a Tripadvisor posting, that hand luggage may not be covered by (in this case Tesco Bank) travel insurance.
Over the years CBF members have come to rely on this forum providing accurate information in respect of many aspects of living in Turkey, holidaying in Turkey and travelling to and from Turkey. Some members are less "worldly" than others and when they read stuff like this will a) believe it and b) go on to propagate a completely misleading piece of information - they may even go so far as to change/cancel a Tesco policy. That is the power of CBF.
It took two minutes to verify that this piece of third hand information, from a commercial forum, is nonsense.
It's no different to the "I read it on Facebook therefore it must be true" type of posts.
If you post gossip/rubbish/nonsense/Facebook rumours you are certainly not helping members...

I could add the word 'nonsense' to the swear filter if members like. I don't consider calling a post nonsense offensive, if you believe it is nonsense.
Remember the following

2. Discussion Forum

Maybe saying "that is not the case", has less of a dismissive, contemptuous impact when saying J's post was "nonsense". Just saying
-
Because JH would never dismiss someone's post as 'nonsense' innit ;)
-
This is why we always book speedy boarding on Easyjet so we get on the plane and ensure our hand luggage is stowed away in the lockers in front of us, where we can keep an eye on it. What a horrible thing to happen. Haven't actually checked our insurance but would imagine it would be covered - it is theft after all.
-
Can you imagine someone having the balls to take your bag and walk past you with it? It's a little reminder to be vigilant at this time. And to put a distinguishing mark on the luggage. My old ma-in-law always had a luminous pink sock tied to hers, bless her soul. Good idea now I have read this.
-
But that would mean I was walking about with only one sock. People would think that was odd.
-
If you want to be cool, you could use a luminous green sock on the other foot.

The person in question had a Tesco's Everyday Value Insurance. This requires an extra premium to insure personal belongings in luggage. This is why Tesco's will not pay them out. Now, that seems like nonense to me..
However, it seems that if we read anything on a Forum say...T.A or CBF. Then we should not believe it because people who write on forums never tell the truth.
I would also say that most people would not rush to cancel their insurance, they would check it out first.

Nonsense Scunner!! You should put a sock in it! Ha Ha! ;D ;D
-
Yeah, sock off !

Nonsense? I've never been so insulted ;)

Plenty time then.
-
Always carry a extra sock on the golf course in case I get a hole in one? OK
Ill get me coat.
-
Colwyn - you can't wear two odd socks.
You recently posted that you wanted to squash the rumour that you had mixingmetoeses.
-
;D oh dear Stuart, not sure if I dare to admit that made me laugh!
-
Don't tell anyone else, Marina.
(It'll be our guilty secret).

Ah, but have you checked the small print in case it only covers you for doing both at the same time?
