Read it all.

Absolutely gripping stuff.

Thanks for posting it John.,

It seems likely that Turkey isn't going to be like "my" Turkey in the relatively near future.

Most Turks may well feel more comfortable with Erdogan's visions than the prospect of becoming a "modern" Turkey - as was proposed a few years ago when we saw them seemingly angling for EU membership.....

........which, in truth, I doubted Turkey was ever destined to become.

Ever more unlikely in the foreseeable future.

I've been saying for years (for different reasons each time) that this might be our last holiday to Turkey for some time - then the next I know I can't resist and have the flights booked for the next one.

But I do have a deep feeling of inevitability this time - I think we are on the verge of a hugely major and significant change in the way of life in Turkey - it reminds me of those old photos of Westernised sociable countries like Iran, Lebanon, Afghanistan etc side by side with the fundamental Islamic states they became.

I have great admiration for Colwyn, who despite his long and deep relationship with Turkey now finds it difficult to justify continuing to visit a place with such a poor humans rights record. I understand and appreciate the sentiment but I can't muster enough anger or outrage in that to prevent me holidaying there.

For me the fear is something else - a fear that either Turkey will no longer look to welcome us to holiday there, or it will become a place we don't want to holiday in.

In any event, we will thoroughly enjoy our 2017 holiday in Calis and Fethiye, and hope we won't be talking about all our times there in terms of how it used to be in Turkey.

Some well written articles, which have made interesting reading.  If its Yes (which in my mind it will be) and Turkey changes dramatically, us Ex Pats have the enviable choice to go back to our country of origin.  The no supporters will not have this option.......
