Demonstrations in Fethiye
« on: March 18, 2016, 19:55:22 PM »
A Turkish friend has suggested we avoid Fethiye on Monday/Tuesday as there is a Demonstration planned.

Does anybody have any details please?

Don - it is Newroz (Kurdish New Year) on Monday and some big cities are warning of demonstrations.

That's because they are expected on Monday/Tuesday coming.

That may be because yesterday was neither Monday or Tuesday?

It's new year Monday but they will most likely gather tomorrow apparently.

There have been warnings to avoid busy places (especially demonstrations) on Sunday and Monday but turned out that Saturday wasn't safe either :(

Had lunch at the Erasta in Fethiye today, all cars were checked on entering. They had mirrors to check underneath and they also checked in the boot.

There was no entering the two coffee shops from inside the Erasta either.

Oh dear.

Glad they are attempting to take precautions but sorry to hear it at the same time.

I'm just trying to imagine an ordinary day sauntering around the shops and then being blasted to kingdom come and life either ending or changing irrevocably in a split second.

We're booked to visit the UK at the end of the month (no returns booked as yet) and it will be interesting to view the events here from abroad and gauge attitudes to Turkey.

RIP citizens of Istanbul and Ankara.

It's just as likely to happen in the UK.
