You will need to take it to a Turkcell shop along with your passport next time you are in Turkey.

The last time this happened I went in the shop topped it up and it was reactivated, I just wanted to see if I needed the phone or could it just be done by the number or did the phone had to be there?

Just take the Sim number into the shop and put some credit on, it will be activated immediately.  Alternatively, get someone here to put money on before you arrive, then when you turn your phone on it will be acitivated.

Isn't the life of the SIM limited/ended if you have not made a top up for 180 days?

Ian, I'm pretty sure it is 270 days.

You can dial *166*5# and press call, you will get a message back telling you when your card lapses.

Think it might depend on the network as when I ring 7501 on my vodaphone payg phone it always counts down from 180 days but deactivated at that point - who knows - maybe not ?????

I have calling both numbers that people have suggested and the phone is showing no signal? Any suitable suggestions?

You can top up from your Turkish bank account, if you have one.
We were last in Turkey October 2013 I used the phone last on 7th October, I knew I would have to top up by April 2014. So I used the bank from the UK online.

Unfortunately I forgot to put the phone on Roam before leaving Turkey in October, yet it appears that just by topping up has done the job. We stepped off the plane 3rd June and it has worked fine.

To get the Turkcell phone to work in UK and do top ups by kontor card I used to register online at the turkcell website, you only can do this when in Turkey, unless it has changed.

Prior to me topping up online through bank I used to give a friend 20tl and they had my telephone number and a day or so before the 6 month lapse I would ask them to go or when they were in any shop buying milk or bread to do the 20tl top up. This has kept my phone open for the last 6 years.
Hope this helps.

Do you have to topup or just make calls in the six months
