I'm going to be shipping a used 7 year old desk top apple computer to Fethiye. I've got residency. I want to know am I allowed to bring it in without paying any custom or tax fees on it?
-
I personally wouldn't bother, too expensive, especially if its seven years old. Bring the keyboard and buy the rest of the kit in Turkey...
-
Yep

Can you give me a ball park figure on too expensive. It's just I paid £1000.00 for it back then and they are up to nearly £2000.00 pound now.
As far as I'm aware there is an apple shop opened up in Istanbul now.
-
Bring the hard drive and the keyboard. You can pick-up the rest of gubbins in Fethiye pretty cheaply.
-
Is it cheaper to do that because the customs fee is so high? I was under the impression if a foreigner has residency they could bring in 1 computer each without paying taxes.
-
Weigh it and see if you can find a suitable second hand wheeled case and bring it with you, excess baggage maybe.??
Others would know better re Taxes but if it's 7 years old I wouldn't have thought it would attract any. How big /heavy is it. ?

Yes you are, however you will be charged Bandarol Tax on the monitor - so if its an all in one iMac then you'll have to pay.
If its not an all in one then sticking it in a box and bringing it over as part of a baggage allowance, or maybe paying a bit of excess on it is the simplest, and safest way to do it.
If it was a PC then the previous advice applies.

Its an Imac all in one. Weighs 6.8 kg.
How do they work out the Bandarol tax on a 2nd hand computer. It won't be worth much now.
Is Bandarol tax 18%?

Just a follow up. I ended up bringing the computer on the plane in its original box. Arrived in Istanbul then on to domestic airport to Dalaman.
Had to put my suitcase and the computer through the scanner on arrival. The customs officer pointed to the computer and asked what was it. I said a computer an old one. Then he just waved his hand and off I went with a smile on my face.
And it survived the journey.

Well done.

How will an iPhone/iPad and a HDD in a USB caddy work? Simple answer, it won't.
