-
Correct Detective bluwise they did, great place & had many great holidays there.
-

-
Small world Bluwise, The inlaws who bought the apartment off Anita sometimes meet up with her when they are over at the same time.

Don't forget to check out the laws on the rabies jabs ( for the dog!!!!!!!!!)
I seem to remember that you don't need them to come into Turkey but there are some complications should you wish to take Fido back to the UK...... From what I can recall its worth having it before you leave UK even though you don't ( or didn't 2 years back ) actually need it........
-
Thanks Academylin rabies jab done on the 'dog' & passport for the dog also just waiting for a titre test that dog has 4 weeks after jab & the 4 legged member of our party is ready to go.
4 weeks left for me to work & then 3 weeks until the drive over
-
Good luck with your adventure pompylee. Safe journey. :)

Cheers Kevin3

Well it's less than 2 weeks now until we start the drive to Calis, will be myself, wife, dog & my brother driving over with my brother having the pleasure of driving the rental van back on his own, route is mapped (going the encona Italy igoumenitsa Greece route) & sat nav with europe Turkey got.
May just need to book accommodation on route in Greece or Turkey but other than that hope to make Calis on Sunday 9th or Monday 10th April.
Looking forward to seeing how I can keep myself busy not being in holiday mode (drinking eating out most nights)
& more sightseeing for free with walks & cycling (intend to buy bikes) & hopefully a bit of fishing, anyone know if it's free to fish from the beach or do I need some kind for permit, when we eventually get a bigger property hope to keep myself busy gardening and growing as much from seed as possible, oh & hopefully playing darts & following fetiye sport more.
Not long now.

Hi lee, I am sure you have it covered but how do you bring a hire vehicle into turkey when I thought proof of ownership was required to have it stamped in on your brothers passport?
-
Hi Simon
This is from the republic of Turkey website,
7. Rental/hire cars may be temporarily imported, upon presentation of a valid rental contract, for the term of the contract. In case of doubt about the validity of the contract, a Turkish translation may be required.
-
Thank Lee, I just thought I would mention as I vaguely remember a previous discussion on the subjct, good luck!

Good luck with the trip. When we did the journey over we stopped at Kavala in Greece and started out the journey to Ovacik the next morning and did it in one day.The town of Kavala had some pleasant hotels.Hope all goes well for you.
-
After being held up by lechunnel at folkstone for 2 hours finally got to Strasbourg & now to get some kip as up in 6 hours on our way again at 5am to Ancona.
-
All the best for the journey, keep us informed :)
-
Hope you have a safe and pleasant journey.
Good luck with it all.

Well finally got here with what was the journey from hell, after the 2 hour tunnel delay France, Switzerland, Italy passed not to bad, after being told we had the wrong class ticket for our van at Ancona & some Greece boarding staff arguing finally got the all clear to drive on , I managed to fall whilst going up 4 flights of stairs with 3 heavy bags but luckily a female member of crew ran down 2 flights & carried 2 of the bags up as if they were light, we were then quickly showed to our cabin(myself, wife and dog) by another member of crew, couldn't fault the ship crew attall all very friendly and helpfull.
After grabbing a bite to eat and a couple of drinks retired for the night for the majority of the journey.
This is where it went bad, At the turkish border none of the border staff appeared to speak English & after unloading some of our load that was looked at a little bit guard asked for the vehicle passport, what he meant was the V5 but as we had a rental vehicle the van owner had the original & the rental agreement had the van details & serial number on so we should if been ok to carry on, oh no & despite getting two of our Turkish friends to speak with them no luck, In the end I got the V5 sent to my email for the guards to print & after going from pillar to post another 4 times being told we needed one month's car insurance as minimim for Turkey he wrote a figure down of 1700 lira ended up paying 450 & picking up 2 peices of paper along the way van had to be x-rayd, by then there was a q of lorrys aporiximatly 3 hours long, we managed to sneak behind the lorry that was due to be x-rayd next so only another 40 mins.
Once through x-ray one more trip to another office for paper to be stamped before finally heading to the last gate although there is still armed guards after this gate.
By then it was 8pm & we needed to find a place to sleep before getting the ferry to cannakele in the morning, managed to find a nice little hotel that let us have a room for 3 adults and our dog for 200 lira with breakfast.
The next day we headed into Turkey
-
Glad to hear you arrived safely, hope your brother has a good rest before the journey back!
-
Glad to hear you arrived in Turkey after all that! Good luck with the rest of the journey. :)
-
Thanks Simon & Marina,
Contd.....
Once on our way we made good time & were within 40mins of FETIYE going downhill & my brother who was driving said the brakes were not stopping us properly, luckily there was a viewing area on the next bend which we pulled into to see both rear wheels smoking and One actually with flames coming out, tried to extinguish with bottled water we had but luckily there were some Turkish guys taking selfies who went to there car for there extinguisher to put the flames out.
After calling Mercedes Benz breakdown approx 30 times even after we were told recovery was on its way & to be asked what vehicle we had, how many people, is it loaded etc several times and to be told Turkish law recovery can only pick up 2 passengers, luckily by then I had asked one of our Turkish freinds (gungor) to collect the wife and our dog which he managed to borrow a car & do so.
Eventually (10.30pm) the van was recovered & taken to a dealership in dalaman there was a tecnition (Mustafa) who was excellent despite speaking very little English managed to get us on our way by 12.15 & we were home just after 1am, most goods now unpacked and managed to see calis see around 9am from nil bar as my brother wanted breakfast before starting the drive again taking the van back.
Hopefully a few pics below from the journey.

Hi Fabian, yes as it was a hire vehicle we expected there to be one but there was not when I checked, thankfully it was required, brother had last night made it to cannakele ferry crossing & stopped in the same hotel (ozturk?) We stayed in coming over.
-
What a to-do! Hope you can relax now.
-
I hope you enjoy settling in and wish your brother a safe return trip.
-
Thanks all, brother through the border & in Greece, just a 7 hour drive to the ferry now.
-
What a journey!
But you are here now.
Hoşgeldiniz :)
-
Yes here & have enjoyed our first cycle along calis seafront on our newly purchased bikes, brother also made it back yesterday (Thursday) afternoon, now to settle down to see if pompey can come back from 1 down at HT against Plymouth.
-
Yesterday sorted out insurance & residency (2 years) & starring to settle into life here as a resident not a holidayer, hope to do some more cycling before it gets to hot ;)
-
Well done,im sur you will enjoy your stay in Turkey!
-
After receiving a text message & mis reading it that we had to collect our residency cards ended up going to 3 different PTT's for no reason & received them from a PTT man last Tuesday ☺️ So official Turks for 2 years at least, even received post (tax rebates & bank statement) from the uk this week so alls going well, The dog (jack Russell ) is starting to feel the heat but she has her own pool (child's sandpit filled with water) to play in & keep cool.
Father in law is due to find out next week if he has the all clear to fly & the inlaws have sold there house so by July they could be out here to, we have seen a bigger house we really like that we want to move in to but we are just waiting on a builders verdict on a wall in the garden that is leaning before looking to buy, here's to many more years in calis ????
-
Fantastic Lee, go for it. Smallholding next.?? " Pompyveggies R us " ;)
-
Best of British to you both!
Lovely couple deserving of the best.
Bit brave too..........
-
Well done to you all for getting to Calis safely after such an eventful journey. I'll bet by now you will have well settled in to your new lives and are living the dream! Good luck with everything
-
Thanks all, I hope you (holmej) have a less eventful journey here if driving/bringing possessions, yes Kevin3 given half the chance will sell my weird/different veg plants maybe at the locals market in Fethiye which we will try to use more often as cheaper, only downside the covers/tents that shade the stalls are no good if you're above 6ft so had to do plenty of ducking on my way round.
Cheers StuartT still loving it here, wife's cousin here this week so living a bit like holiday makers but still trying to curb the purse strings.
-
You'll make it just fine.
Any joy with finding somewhere to play darts?
