Fabulous news! Now maybe the airlines will also take notice and drop some fares...

Thanks for the post, @lissa

This is great news and should boost tourism from the six countries. Hopefully members coming out this year haven't purchased their visas yet?

Yep some good news there, agree on the airline flight cost, but I guess they must be selling or else they would come down? Market forces as the say.
Never understood why the costs are more expensive to fly back to UK?

The article states free entry for 90 days in 180 so visa free it may not be - maybe free visa? Otherwise it would be very difficult to monitor length of stays in a given period.

Great positive move though...

They'll use the info read from your passport when it's scanned in and out.

Logic suggests that.

I bet you will still need a visa though, even if it is free.

It’s not reading that way:

As I said previously, the British press may misinterpret "visa free" & "free visa". Let's just wait and see how it pans out...

Does say on gov.uk that from march 2nd, British nationals travelling to Turkey for tourist or business purposes will no longer need a visa for visits of up to 90 days in a 180 day period.
Passports will presumably still be scanned and stamped on arrival and departure so this will show length of time spent in Turkey in a given period.

Just to add to the above - The Foreign Office says: “The Turkish government advise that your passport should be valid for at least six months from the date you enter Turkey and that there is a full blank page for the entry and exit stamps.
Definitely one to keep an eye on as things always changing. This forum best place to get latest information.

Ok then - not like Turkey to reduce the amount of paperwork and red tape for anything.  :)

Looks like I won’t be using my Irish passport anymore

I'm being cynical, but it seems like a lot of income to be without. Even at the old £10 visa, approx 230 seats per plane.
( I know,..I googled it  ;D) However many flights in each and every day...
I know they say don't look a gift horse and all that..but what's the catch??

They'll recoup it through the 'hotel tax'. Plus, they'll not need to pay so much in wages to the visa clerks at the borders.

I note that the uk gov site confirms no visas and Turkish site have updated the past 24 hours.
, BUT I see there are lots of new get your visa sites here  just popped up, I expect loads of travellers who don't look out for the free visas will click on these sharks and get ripped off

The 'fake' sites have always come-up at the top of a Google search. The Turkish government site has usually appeared at least 4 or 5 'hits' down the page. Hundreds of people have been caught-out by them in the past and will continue to be as you said Blueclad.
