Title: Optimistic or Write off
Post by: JLS1 on July 01, 2021, 11:19:01 AM
Good Morning

Just a question trying to gather everyone's thoughts on this year potential Holidays. We are due out August 17th for 2 weeks. Last year was the  first one missed for 10 years. Do we write this year off realistically or do you think Turkey will go Amber by that date? (Wishful Thinking)

We have been visiting Turkey at least twice a year for some 15 Years and we also did not make it out last year.
We are hopeful to get to Turkey Sep/Oct 2021.
As you say fingers crossed!!!!

20 years for us this year, also missed last year! Booked for October this year, but not holding my breath the way things are going. But who knows! We probably won't get to know until last minute so will just keep fingers crossed.

Honestly I think I may have taken Calis for granted as me and my family are missing the place so much. In all 15 years we have been coming staying at Seaside By Jiva. But this year we are staying at Kayapark which we are excited about but the not knowing is the hard part I genuinely thought Turkey would have sneaked into Amber on the last round

Chomping at the bit to get out and sort out our affairs, but realistically cannot see that happening before Sept/Oct. Certainly not booking flights until feeling more positive. :-\

Flights are very tempting at the prices I saw but as previously mentioned this will be a last minute decision and a mad dash to get things sorted.

JLS1 we stayed for a month at Kayapark in Oct 2019 and that's where we're booked for October this year. We love it there, it's in a nice quiet spot but just minutes walk from all you need. There's just the two of us so have one of the 2 bedroom ground floor apartments and there's loads of space for us. Just hope we can all get there.

Just hope that the Amber list includes Turkey on the next round of announcements. Kayapark looks a fantastic location we cannot wait will miss Seaside and that end of the promenade as we love to pop into Lukka Bar for an afternoon Bomonti. I read the reason behind Turkey not getting into the upgraded amber list is because its an international aviation hub where countries find it difficult to determine where travellers originated from or is it just COVID vaccination numbers prevented it?

We prefer to be in the centre of things, I know a lot of people like Seaside and that end of Calis but a bit too far out for us. I think Turkey being a travel hub for a lot of countries plus the fact they are allowing flights from Russia again, whose cases are rising rapidly (so I read somewhere) are just a couple of reasons why Turkey isn't coming off the red list anytime soon. But I hope I'm wrong and will be happy to be proved so.  :(

Infection figures in Turkey are much improved and the vaccination programme is going ahead at full steam. From yesterday, health workers and also those over 50 years of age could book their booster shots, so the 3rd dose.
Very recently, it was announced that flights would be allowed into Turkey from India, Brazil, Nepal, S Africa, etc, but within hours a u turn was done on this and flights are banned.
Flights from Russia and Ukraine are continuing, Ukrainians have been travelling for a while, Russia just started flights last week.
The promenade in Calis is not finished, and some roads are still in a terrible state. Some in Fethiye, but Ovacik and Hisaronu are still very bad. Reports that the main road in Ovacik has been resurfaced but the heat is affecting it. Not seen myself though.
But the Babadag cable car is operating!

Just trying to bring a bit of levity into a discussion that has been doing the rounds for a while now.
The bottom line is no one really has a clue and all we can do is speculate on if/when things will open up from a U.K. travel perspective.Based upon the current “facts” Turkey should go Amber at the next review, however using U.K. Govt criteria they should’ve been at the last one.
Then you have to look at the cases in the U.K.,will Turkey allow unfettered travel from U.K. ?
Maybe not but the tourist pound may influence that decision.
Amber could mean double jabbed and PCR before arrival and departure, would you do that ?
Amber May mean double jabbed and no PCR.
Then again due to the strides being made in the Turkish vaccination programme they may be Green by September.
So you see the only answer is that there is no answer at present we need to either take it a day at a time and book when you feel ready or take a risk, pick a date, book and keep everything crossed.
My view is Iam fed up with the whole thing,my dates are booked for Turkey September,Turkey May 2022,Sorrento July 2022,Turkey September 2022.
Risky yes but I could sit around letting the whole situation rule my life or grab by the balls and get in as normally as possible.

Trying to be optimistic about our trip booked at the end of July, hubby saw something this morning saying Turkey might be moved to Amber, then the travel agent rang to say our tickets have arrived and they would call again on the 16th July.

Fingers crossed for you. As I said in previous post, vaccination programme is galloping on in Turkey, health minister said it is planned to vaccinate 70% by the start of bayram, which is only a couple of weeks away. Plans to set up vaccine booths at lots of airports to give jabs to citizens and residents, also talk of having booths at otogars.

For me and Mrs Wasp0, QueasyJet has cancelled our July Flights and we now have 2 QJ Vouchers to use, so holding on for Late Oct, but we may come out Nov via Turkish Airlines and have a stop over in Istanbul. We last visited our apartment April 20.

Next year we have April and June and Sept in our sights, but not booking anything yet until 2022 has started.

Really disappointed in the Prom still looking like a building site, and also disappointed that no Coloured lights along prom. Does anyone know what those trees are that have been planted along with the Palms??

I feel for the Restaurants, Shops, Cafe's along the prom, (And indeed everywhere) they deserve to be full. Oh Well lets see what Boris has to say about travel, vaccinations come the 19th!

PS. in all the YT vids showing the Prom, i can't see that the Indian Restaurant is open (Calis Beach Indian), can anyone verify if it is open/closed shut down etc. I hope it is OK, i would miss Hulky!

It's well worthwhile having 2 or 3 days stop-over in Istanbul.

Having cancelled in September 2020 and May 2021 I've booked a package for April/May 2022 in the hope that travel restrictions will be eased, but who knows with the rate of mutations of the nasty virus what will happen even so far ahead?  We live in hope   :)

This year would have been on 18th visit.  We missed last year and May this year and have rebooked our September visit for next year.  We miss the place, our many friends, the beautiful sea and country side and the wonderful people.

I have been monitoring the Turkish Covid rate for the last few months and was very happy to see that the rate of infection was steadily reducing week on week to just 8% of its original peak, That was until I looked at this.

Still...fingers crossed that we may all get to the place we love this year.

So Turkey didn't get off the Red list.
How depressing is this.
Love to know criteria used, if any one can throw any light on it, as India managed to go Amber & less than 1 month ago that's probably one of the last places you'd have wanted to visit.

Hi strange I totally agree. Could have something to do with trade deals or am I being cynical : :)

I don’t think your being cynical Rana i think you’ve hit the nail on the head. I was speaking to a friend who lives in Calis two days ago and he asked me when i was coming over, i explained the reason and he laughed saying that calis was having tourists from Russia Germany France and other European countries, which beggars my thinking that anyone from many Europe countries can now holiday in Turkey, then go home and the next day be allowed into the UK providing they have had two vaccine jabs, I’m now pretty convinced our government have lost the plot.

Taken from gov.uk today .......... "If you travel from an amber list country but have been in a red list country in the 10 days before you arrive in England, you must follow rules for red list countries."

Whilst the number of cases in Turkey continues to increase (with a significant proportion being the Delta variant) and whilst the percentage of population that has been double jabbed remains relatively low I am sorry to say that Turkey will remain red for quite a while..................

Çalış was probably one of the safest places to be in recent months, but after Bayram and the influx of travellers it may well suffer soon.

Difficult to find any cause for optimism, no matter how hard I try.

Just seen the video from Mick on Youtube of the new cable car ascent and restaurants at Babadag.  Does anyone know where we could board the van which runs to the cable car?

All Easyjet flights from Gatwick to Dalaman have been cancelled for this year. You can book for next year but who knows what next year will be like for travel.

It is possible to get here via either Istanbul or Antalya with Pegasus but the problem is returning to the UK until Doris takes Turkey off the red list  :(

As Easyjet are still flying to Antalya are we right to assume that cancellation of all Dalaman flights is purely an economic decision on Easyjets behalf?
Might hold off until Boris makes his next 'list adjustments' before I decide whether to have a refund, voucher, or flight change, for my September Dalaman flight.
If , and it's obviously a big if, Turkey goes amber, might just change my cancelled Dalaman flight to Antalya

We just changed our flights to Antalya but have just seen that they are now cancelled.  >:(  We usually fly from Luton, and looking at the Easyjet website now, the first flights you can book to Antalya are from 30th March 2022.  They still show some from Gatwick, but lets not hold our breath on that one!!!
