Sweet and Sour
« on: March 12, 2008, 17:36:50 PM »
If anyone is missing a Chinese takeaway I have just made sweet and sour chicken.  It was gorgeous and very easy. Simple ingredients that most of us have in the cuboard.

Sweet and Sour Sauce

3 tbs vinegar
3 tbs sugar
half tsp salt
1 tbs tomato puree
1 tbs soy sauce
1 tbs cornflour
1 tsp oil sesame oil(didn't have any so used sunflower)

Mix the above together.

I stir fried strips of chicken, mushrooms, courgettes, onions, mange tout, carrot and red peppers(or whatever veg you have) with a little oil.  When chicken is cooked add sauce and and cook for a further 5 mins.

Instead of the sugar try adding honey, then try adding a tin of pineapple pieces including the syrup must be the natural syrup not the sugar type, also if you have it a clove of crushed garlic.

Or, instead of all that, go to Tugcem Gida and buy a bottle of Amoy Sweet and Sour Sauce ! :D
