I agree,I got my Aegean flights for 2010 last June for £160 each flying from Prestwick.
Now they are on sale at around £350!
I think Manchester seems the best option if you are trying to book now for May/June
this year.

My best advice on flights from Scotland honestly is, fly from Manchester.

Newcastle could be an option for central belt/border people

We often fly from Newcastle, it's only two hours drive form Glasgow

We flew back from Dalaman to Manchester last August for £31.99 each (+£9 hold baggage). Well worth it when you see the price of Dalaman to Glasgow or Edinburgh flights.

Sorry, but I don't want a 7 hour drive to the airport, or even worst from the airport back to Scotland.  The other thing to factor in is time.  It will probably put two extra days on any holiday which is fine if you can take that time, we can't.
There are no cheap flights from Scotland which is a price we pay for living here.  We will pay the extra and flight from Aberdeen, it's a great feeling landing at Aberdeen and knowing you will be home in an hour, and don't have a horrible long drive ahead.

What horrible long drive? For us it's 5 hours plus whatever stop time. Last time we made that even a little longer by taking the M6 through the Lakes, then instead of heading of continuing up the motorway towards Glasgow we took the A7 (signposted Galashiels) around Carlisle and A roaded it right the way up the border, through some of the most stunning countryside and beautiful towns and villages. We stopped where we wanted for lunch and coffee or view stops.

If flying to Manchester is £100 cheaper, that's £400 I save (less the petrol) for the 4 of us, so the way I see it, I'm getting paid around £70 an hour to drive on a big, picturesque adventure.

They are cafe and restaurant obsessed - if we'd stopped at all the places they suggested we'd still be driving now :D

There are only two of us so we end up paying what they ask.   If you count petrol and probable hotel night   it works out just as cheap from here.
( I would not cope with travelling to Manchester on day of flight ,bad enough to Glasgow)

I just keep an eye on prices through travelsupermarket and all the airlines.  Teletext can occasionally have good deals.

Certainly agree that it is only half as worth it if there are only two of you. When Steph and I went a couple of times last year we just booked to and from Glasgow. The petrol still costs the same etc., and the savings are only x2.
