"Deported" to UK
« on: May 09, 2011, 08:26:30 AM »
On Saturday I was discharged after ten days in Ahu Hetman hospitial in Marmaris. This is a private hospital and I rate the treatment I received there, for a pretty serious heart condition, very highly. This apparently is not always the case with private hospitals and I'll be posting about this separately. Hilary and I were given medical repatriation to the UK with transport by ambulanace and wheelchair accompanied all the way by a doctor who had been sent out from the UK. I will again be posting on my experience with the insurance company and on comments made by the UK doctor who has long-term experience of hospitals and repatriation all over the world. I will also be posting about the journey back to the UK - under the Grumpy Old Men forum. Perhaps this discussion will be of value to holidaymakers who find themselves in similar positions. Unfortunately, I didn't collect any material suitable for Turkish Tales - perhaps I am losing my sense of humour.

I do hope that you make a good recovery and are soon well again (and regain your sense of humour). :)

So the pint of " Old Growler " comes ever closer ! As it happens I spent two weeks in the American Hastenese in Istanbul a few years back and too had an insurance " ticket " back to the UK. I look forward to your upcoming posts and to compare the experience. Take it slowly Colwyn and enjoy life.

Speedy recovery Colwyn, one of the biggest concerns for most people is falling ill whilst on holiday, or living overseas, therefore personal testimonials are of great interest; waiting in anticipation for your reports.

All the best for a speedy recovery Colwyn.  Good to also hear that you were well looked after.
