Insuring a scooter in Calis.
« on: July 27, 2011, 12:56:02 PM »
My hubby bought a scooter about 4 years ago with the help from our Turkish friend. He had the number plates changed etc. This year hubby and our Turkish friend went to renew the scooter insurance and was told he needs residency to renew the insurance? As we only have 6 weeks in Calis each year we don't see the point in going for residency. Someone we know told us that certain insurance companies will cover us. Can you experienced guys offer us some advice please ready for when we go over in September
Thank you

Heather x

I insured my scooter a few weeks ago (27.05.2011), without residency.  My insurance company is Anadolu Sigorta.  Tel No 614 6117

Don't know if its changed since then.  Hope this helps

You do not need residency to insure a scooter, motorbike or car.  They have outdated software.  Change your insurers.

jackstee the electric ones are classed as an electric bike so no insurance, licence or tax.

Heatherhanum - the cheapest insurance is with Gunes at the moment and then Andalou are the next - the Renault Garage opposite Kipa use both companies - if you go in the main entrance the insurance people are on the far right of the showroom.  Fatih speaks good english and is very helpful.  Should cost you between 25 and 30 lira for the year.

I was told this morning that you need a Kimlik number to get insurance, and that you can only get that when you get Residency!  Not sure how true that is though.

I have just tried to insure my scooter with Aviva which I have used for 5 years and they also said that I need a Kimlik no. I have residency and have had for 4 years and I never got a kimlik no.They told me I need to go to Mugla.
