Wondering whether anyone with a Garanti account can give me some advice. At the moment I manage my account via going in with my bank book but would like to also be able to do this online or via the telephone when in the UK. Does anyone currently use this service and give me any advice or contact info? Thanks.

I use Garanti online from the UK but I set it up when I opened the bank account 3 years ago. Not sure actually if you can do it without going into the bank.

Once set up it's very easy however you need a Turkish mobile phone (unless you can specify otherwise if living in the UK which I don't know) as they send a text with a 1 time pin for you to log in as the final security check.

If you go into the main branch on the seafront road you can ring customer services from the phone on the right (I think it's dial 9 for English) & set it up without having to queue for the customer services desk at the far end of the bank. You will need your bank account details as well as your passport & your mobile phone number so best to write these down 1st or else you are juggling lots of documents & also you need a pen/paper as they will give you some info to use when you 1st log in to the website here: http://www.garanti.com.tr/en

Tips: Password will be 6 letters followed by 2 numbers (well that's what they wanted from me anyway!) & internet pin is 6 digits as opposed the usual 4. Hope that helps.

You can set it up by phone from England by Ringing Garanti Alo on
0090 212 4440 333 then 9 to select English (This is where the courtesy phone in the bank goes to). Also you can register your English mobile phone as they send my unique one time PIN to mine.

Once you are up & running I can think of 2 other things that may help you.

1: They do an internet savings account which must be opened on-line, this pays 8.5% as opposed to 6.5% for a savings account opened in branch.

2: If you do open 1 of these then the interest is paid monthly on the anniversary of the date you open it so make sure you do that on a date to suit you. You can then transfer the interest into your current account (if needed) or any of the initial investment without losing a months interest, hope that makes sense!

Last but not least the staff in branch will not help with any internet opened account, they simply tell you to go back & do whatever you want on-line!
