So what happens if there is real Earthquake damage?
« on: June 11, 2012, 10:48:09 AM »

God forbid however, it is clear that with many TAPUs showing a far less worth of the property, that DASK insurance for earthquake damage would leave many people underinsured.

I guess this is heightened if your property is in a terrace or semi-detached as this would leave you legally liable for any under insured cost that does not meet the required amount to repair yours and neighbors joint walls.

Most sensible folk top up the DASK with other insurance, so God forbid in the event of an earthquake you will have the cost to rebuild. You have bought up a very valid point as we are semi detached.....and was only saying yesterday thank goodness we are well insured.  Never gave it a thought that my neighbour could be under insured. Going to see my neighbour and have a chat to see if they have adequate insurance.

So this basically means Dask is worthless - what other options are there in the private sector to obtain FULL and adequate cover?

Has anyone gone down this route?

And what happens if everyone has Dask in a big apartment block apart from one person - do they leave his rubble?

Yes, Dask is virtually useless but nevertheless it is compulsory. Any insurance company will offer FULL and Adequate cover at a cost and I don't know anybody who HAS NOT gone down this route.
