The Turkish Central Bank has voted to reverse the change of 2006 and end the pretence that knocking six noughts off makes for a more stable currency, reports Hurriyetup Daily News.
According to sources in Ankara, the new currency "hasn't worked" and the Kurus hasn't really taken off as hoped. "We listen to all feedback" said Finans Minister Ali Waye. "Businesses tell us that people prefer the noughts. It's good for tourism. People love telling their friends they paid a million for a cay. It is good for tourism and people miss it. We lost many hilarious moments".
Old bank notes need to be handed in for exchange to branches of Vakıf Bank on any Thursday before December 31st this year. Any old notes will not be accepted after this date and cannot be exchanged. Stickers with six noughts on can be purchased to "upgrade" your old notes after this date, at a cost of 6 kurus each. Kurus will not exist after the 31st however.
