getting tax number

Can someone confirm that to get a tax number to be able to open a bank account in turkey, do we have to have a turkish address and proof of this ?

as i have been told we do not need to own a property there which does not make sence to me ! if i need an address for tax number !

Well, for instance,if you were renting a property, you'd have an address.

If you own one you show a TAPU, if you only rent, you show a rental agreement. (Pro Forma Rental Agreements can be purchased at stationery shops / Kırtasiye and you can just fill-in the blanks.    )

Just out of interest we have had our tax numbers since 2005 and I carry them around with me and have never had a problem passing the numbers to anyone in authority but I have read some of you have a card - is it easy to get one in our position at the tax office and do they charge :-)

Unless they have changed the rules - AGAIN. All you needed was a photocopy of your passport and your actual passport. They ask you for fathers and mothers names and that's it. They will issue you with a little card showing the number etc. It's a good idea to take this to a stationery shop and get it laminated.

LeeGlo's reply is still correct, friends got their tax number when over on holiday recently and only needed their passport which was photocopied.
