While we worry about the demise of bank interest rates, spare a thought for those living in Cyprus who are about to have their bank accounts legally raided

Is this southern Cyprus (Greek-controlled) or northern (Turkish) or the whole of Cyprus?  Sorry, I'm not good on this topic.

The UK Government have said:

"For people serving in our military and serving our government we are going to compensate anyone affected by this bank tax; people who are doing their duty for our country in Cyprus will be protected from this Cypriot bank tax."

What happened to "we're all in this together". Why isn't the Government offering to compensate all British taxpayers :(

Agreed H & Margie, the expats can sink or swim ( by the way, I support the decision to protect our military 100%)

It's totally outrageous

3,000 Civil Servants protected and 25,000 others left to be robbed blind.

PS I haven't included the 250 troops and I have no idea if the 25,000 are all tax payers.

My blood is just boiling :D

If they are taxpayers, then they are in the same boat as the Civil Servants

I suspect there will be a huge run on the euro tomorrow in the euro zone.   Which country will be next to follow suit and what is to stop them taking another chunk at a later date?
